IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s soccer honors, for the week ending Sunday, March 28.
Offensive Player of the Week
Alex Meinhard * R-Fr. * F * Tulsa
Meinhard extended his scoring lead in The American with a pair of goals for Tulsa in a 2-1 home victory against No. 22 SMU on March 27. Meinhard found the back of the net for the match’s first goal at 19:36 and then broke a 1-1 tie in the 81st minute, finding his league leading fifth match-winning goal at the 80:41 mark. He leads The American with seven goals and 15 points thus far this season.
Defensive Player of the Week
Mariano Fazio * Jr. * D * Tulsa
Fazio and the Tulsa back line helped hold the high-powered SMU offense to just nine total shot attempts and two shots on goal during a 2-1 win for the Golden Hurricane against the Mustangs on March 27. SMU entered the match among the NCAA leaders with over seven points and shots on frame per game this season.
Goalkeeper of the Week
Yannik Oettl * Sr. * GK * UCF
Oettl picked up his third straight shutout (fourth overall this season) in a 1-0 win in double overtime against rival USF on March 27. Oettl turned away five shot attempts on goal by the Bulls to pick up the win for the Knights.
Rookie of the Week
Anderson Rosa * Fr. * D * UCF
Rosa played a key role on the UCF defense in holding USF scoreless and to just five total shot attempts on goal in a 1-0 double overtime victory on March 27. Rosa also served up the assist on the winning UCF goal in the 102nd minute off a free kick.
