Wichita State's Wallace, East Carolina's Williams Earn Weekly Baseball Honors

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly baseball honors.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Paxton Wallace, Jr., INF, Wichita State
Wallace helped lead the Shockers to a 4-0 week by hitting .444 (8-18) with seven runs scored, a double, two home runs, eight runs driven in and 15 total bases.
 
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Gavin Williams, Jr., RHP, East Carolina
Williams had a career day, throwing 6.0 innings with a career-high 11 strikeouts while only allowing four hits and a walk without a run in a 15-0 shutout of Elon on March 26.
 
HONOR ROLL
Colton Gordon, R-So., LHP, UCF
Gordon picked up the win against Troy on March 26, striking out a career-high 14 batters in six innings of work, while only allowing two runs.
 
Griffin Merritt, Jr., INF, Cincinnati
Merritt hit .533 (8-15) with five runs, a triple, two home runs, three runs batted in and 16 total bases as the Bearcats went 3-1 last week.
 
Brad Burckel, So., 2B, Houston
Burckel hit .400 (6-15) with five runs, a triple, a home run and three runs driven in. He scored the winning run in the Cougars’ come-from-behind 5-4 win on March 28.
 
Derrick Cherry, So., RHP, Houston
Cherry had two appearances last week and did not allow an earned run in 5.1 innings of work while striking out five. He picked up the save in Friday’s win and tossed a career-high 4.0 innings in Sunday’s win.
 
Preston Snavely, Sr., RHP, Wichita State
Snavely threw 7.1 innings of scoreless with seven hits, no walks and five strikeouts in a 9-0 shutout of Omaha.
