UCF's Varsity 8 Named Boat of the Week

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winner of the league’s Boat of the Week honor for March 30, 2021.

The Knights’ Varsity 8 competed at the UVA Invite March 26-27 on the Rivanna Reservoir in Charlottesville, Va. UCF battled tough against No. 9 Tennessee (6:43.5-6:48.6) and was edged by No. 11 Duke (6:50.1-6:51.5) before defeating North Carolina by over 25 seconds (6:55.3-7:20.8).

Results Around The American
UCF competed at the UVA Invite and faced No. 9 Tennessee on March 26 before taking on No. 11 Duke and North Carolina on March 27. The Knights were within 10 seconds of the Volunteers in three of four races, while against Duke, the V8 was edged by just over a second. UCF closed out the invite winning four of five races against the Tar Heels (V8, 2V8, V4 and 2V4).
 
Temple opened its season against Rutgers on the Schuylkill River on March 27. Temple competed an eight and a pair of fours, finishing second in two races and third in another. The Owls' eight took second, clocking in at 6:57.70, between a pair of Rutgers boats. Temple's "White" four was third in its race finishing in 8:10.22, while the "Cherry" four finished in 8:22.36 to take second in its race.
 
San Diego State competed at the San Diego Crew Classic on Mission Bay on March 27 which consisted of two 1,500-meter legs, going in opposite directions in the Sea World Channel. GPS was used to determine each boat's best average time. The Aztecs rowed head-to-head against USD and competed against No. 18 USC virtually in the second varsity eight with the Trojans racing on their home waters in the Port of Los Angeles and facing different conditions than the Aztecs and Toreros. The Aztecs’ V8 narrowly fell to USD (10:26.4-10:38.4) and the 2V8 finished in a time of 11:23.8.
