Players From Temple, USF Secure Major Awards In Men’s Soccer Week Five

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s soccer honors, for the week ending Sunday, March 7.
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Mike Eijgendaal * So. * F * Temple
Eijgendaal put Temple on the scoreboard first in a massive 2-0 victory over No. 2/6 SMU on March 6. He tallied his second goal of the season at the 10:44 mark of the first half to open the Owl scoring account. Eijgendaal led all Temple players with three total shot attempts and two tries on goal.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Pierre Cayet * Sr. * D * Temple
Cayet was a key member of both the Temple clean sheet on the defensive end and notching an insurance goal in the second half of the 2-0 win over No. 2/6 SMU on March 6. Cayet connected on a successful penalty kick attempt at 62:31 to extend the Owl advantage to 2-0. Temple’s back line limited SMU to six shots on frame for the night, including just one in the second half.
 
Goalkeeper of the Week
Eoin Gawronski * R-Fr. * GK * Temple
Gawronski was impressive in goal with six saves for Temple in a 2-0 shutout of No. 2/6 SMU on March 6 in conference play. Making his first career collegiate start, Gawronski turned aside five shots in the first half alone to earn the first clean sheet against the Mustangs by any keeper in over two seasons.
 
Rookie of the Week
Shion Soga * Fr. * M * USF
Soga scored a crucial goal after entering as a reserve for USF in a 2-1 triumph against No. 25/22 Tulsa on March 6. Soga found the equalizer against the Golden Hurricane at 64:13 to square the game at 1-1. He finished the match with two shot attempts in 53 minutes played.
