Vanderbilt, Florida Players Collect Weekly Women's Lacrosse Honors

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of its weekly women’s lacrosse honors for the week-ending March 7.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE ATTACK PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Gabby Fornia • Sr. • Vanderbilt • Mount Laurel, N.Y.

Fornia scored two goals with 12 assists in a 2-0 week for the Commodores. She began the week with a goal and five assists in a 15-10 win against Mercer, while she closed the week by scoring a goal and setting school and conference records with seven assists in a 17-13 victory against High Point. Fornia moved into a tie for first in program history with 88 career assists.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE MIDFIELDER OF THE WEEK
Shannon Kavanagh • Sr. • Florida • Smithtown, N.Y.

Kavanagh contributed at both ends in a 2-0 week for the Gators, finishing with eight goals and 13 draw controls in the two road games. She had three goals with a ground ball and eight draw controls in a 20-7 win against Kennesaw State and added five goals and five draw controls in a 19-7 decision against Stetson.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Melissa Hawkins • D • Sr. • Vanderbilt • Bridgewater, N.J.

Hawkins had nine ground balls, a draw control and three caused turnovers in Vanderbilt’s 2-0 week. She picked up five ground balls and had a caused turnover and a draw control in a 15-10 win against Mercer in which the Commodores built a 14-4 lead through 45 minutes. She added four ground balls and two caused turnovers in a 17-13 win against High Point, helping to hold the Panthers to one goal in the final 10 minutes and allowing the Commodores to overcome a 12-11 deficit.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Danielle Pavinelli • A • Fr. • Florida • Northport, N.Y.

Pavinelli scored four goals with two assists, three draw controls and three ground balls in two road wins for the Gators. She registered her first career hat trick with three goals, an assist, two ground balls and a draw control in a 20-7 win against Kennesaw State and followed with a goal, two assists, a ground ball and two draw controls in a 19-7 victory against Stetson.

Had six ground balls, two draw controls and four caused turnovers in a 1-1 week.

Scored four goals and had three draw controls, two caused turnovers and four ground balls in a 19-11 loss to Drexel.

Had three goals, three assists and 12 draw controls in a 2-0 week. Had 10 draw controls in a win against Mercer.
