IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s men’s and women’s outdoor track & field honors, for the week ending Sunday, April 25.
Men's Track Athlete of the Week
Patrick Dever * Sr. * Tulsa
Dever cruised to a first-place showing in the 5000-meter run representing Tulsa as part of the John McDonnell Invitational on April 23-24 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Dever’s winning time of 13:28.08 was the top showing in The American thus far this season and ranked 11th nationally as of April 28.
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Michael Bryan * Jr. * Wichita State
Bryan continued a standout season in the hammer throw for Wichita State as part of the John McDonnell Invitational in Arkansas, leading all college athletes and placing second overall with a fourth attempt of 70.45m (231-2). Bryan extended his lead in The American standings and ranked seventh in the NCAA as of April 28.
Women’s Track Athletes of the Week
Rayniah Jones * R-Fr. * UCF
Jones raced to the win in the 100-meter hurdles for UCF as the host of the Knights Invite on April 24 in Orlando, Florida. Jones’ victorious time of 12.73 led the conference and was the third-fastest time in the country this season as of April 28.
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Nora Monie * Sr. * Houston
Monie dominated the field to win the discus during the Drake Relays on April 22-24 in Des Moines, Iowa. Her sixth and final attempt of 58.05m (190-5) ranked first in The American and eighth in the NCAA as of April 28.
