Karani, Santos Share Offensive Honors In Men’s Soccer Week Nine Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s soccer honors, for the week ending Sunday, April 4.
 
Offensive Players of the Week
Sean Karani * So. * F * Temple
Karani scored two goals to power Temple to a 4-1 upset win over first place Tulsa on April 2 in Philadelphia. Karani found the back of the net at 12:08 to open the Temple scoring account and added an insurance goal at 72:09 to make it 3-1 Owls. He attempted a match-high three total shots during the contest.
 
Emanuel Santos * So. * M * Memphis
Santos scored twice, including the match-winner in double overtime, to complete a 2-1 comeback for Memphis at USF on April 2. Santos got the Tigers on the board at 69:29 to tie the match at 1-1. Nearing the end of the second overtime period, he snagged a bonus two points for Memphis with his second goal of the night at 107:32.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Yanis Leerman * Jr. * D * UCF
Leerman and the UCF back line weathered an early SMU goal and held form in a 2-1 win for the Knights on April 2. After SMU scored a third-minute goal to take a 1-0 lead, the UCF defense limited the Mustangs to just two shots on goal the remainder of the night and just one attempt on frame in the second half.
 
Goalkeeper of the Week
Eoin Gawronski * R-Fr. * GK * Temple
Gawronski performed at a high level in goal once more for Temple in a 4-1 win against Tulsa on April 2. He turned away four shot attempts from the conference’s top team to help notch the Owls victory.
 
Rookie of the Week
Nigel Griffith * Fr. * F * Temple
Griffith contributed to three of the four Temple goals in the 4-1 triumph over Tulsa on April 2. He notched the match-winning goal at 21:14 and dished out primary assists on goals from Jalen Campbell at 54:22 and Sean Karani at 72:09.

Served up the match-tying goal in the 64th minute and added another primary assist in the match-winner in the 76th minute for UCF in a 2-1 victory against SMU on April 2
 
Lucca Dourado * Fr. * F * UCF
Scored the match-tying goal at 63:01 in an eventual 2-1 comeback win for UCF over SMU on April 2; attempted a match-high four shots (two on goal)
 
Mickael Borger * Sr. * D * Temple
Earned an assist in the match-winning goal in the 22nd minute for Temple in a 4-1 win against conference leader Tulsa on April 2
