IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of its weekly men’s and women’s tennis honors for the week-ending April 5.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE MEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Gabriel Decamps • Jr. • UCF • Sao Paulo, Brazil
Decamps went 2-1 in singles play, defeating two top-30 individuals, and was 3-0 in doubles to lead UCF to three wins against ranked teams last week. He won a three-set battle against the No. 13-ranked player to deliver the Knights’ 4-3 victory against No. 14 Wake Forest, extending his singles winning streak to 13 matches. After seeing the streak end with a retirement in a 4-3 win against No. 37 USF, Decamps bounced back to take a three-set victory against the No. 29-ranked player in a 4-2 victory against No. 25 Tulane. He paired with Juan Pablo Grassi Mazzuchi to win all three doubles sets last week, including a 6-3 win against USF that put the Knights on the board. Decamps improved to 16-2 in singles play, including an 8-2 mark against nationally ranked opponents.
