Tulsa’s Norwood, UCF’s White Claim Season’s Final Softball Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly softball honors, for the week ending Sunday, May 9.
 
Player of the Week
Kylie Norwood * Jr. * IF * Tulsa
Norwood batted .462 with two home runs, five RBI and a pair of runs for Tulsa in a 2-2 series split at Houston in the season’s final weekend. She reached base in all four games against the Cougars and added a 1.000 slugging percentage and .588 on-base percentage in the series. Norwood opened the series 2-for-4 with a solo home run and added a 3-for-4 showing with a double and an RBI in the nightcap of a doubleheader on May 7. She reached base twice and blasted her second home run of the series, driving in two runs against Houston on May 8. Norwood capped the series by reaching base safely twice with one RBI in a Tulsa win in the series finale on May 9.
 
Pitcher of the Week
Alea White * R-Sr. * RHP * UCF
White shined in her final home series in Orlando, going 2-1 with a 0.00 ERA in three starts against rival USF in a UCF series victory. She held the Bulls to just one extra-base hit and a .152 batting average over 18.2 innings pitched. White went the distance in the opening game of the weekend on May 7, taking the hard-luck loss with two unearned runs allowed over seven innings. She righted the ship in game two on May 8 with five innings of one-hit softball, walking one with two strikeouts. White capped the series and regular season with 6.2 shutout innings, punching out six USF batters.

Finished the weekend 2-0 with a save and a 0.41 ERA in a sweep of Memphis; spun complete games in consecutive starts against the Tigers on May 7 and May 8 and tossed three no-hit innings of relief in the series finale on May 9
 
Rachel McCollum * R-Sr. * UTL * East Carolina
Batted .500 with three RBI and four runs scored in a four-game sweep of Memphis; went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored on May 7 and added a pair of hits and a run in the series finale on May 9
