East Carolina's offense pounded out 12 hits and chased Garrett Schoenle from the game after two innings as the Pirates took game one of the doubleheader 8-4 at UC Stadium.

With the game knotted at two-all, ECU put up five runs in the second frame on five hits and a Bearcat error taking a 7-2 lead and never looked back. Lane Hoover got things going with a bunt single to start the stanza and Moylan reached on an error putting runners on the corners. After Ryley Johnson grounded out to second and Moylan moved to second, Giles singled to center plating two runs. Norby followed with an RBI single back up the middle pushing across Giles for the third run. Francisco kept the inning going with his second hit of the game, a shot to right field, and after he stole second base, Seth Caddell grounded out to second scoring Norby. Worrell's double down the left field line allowed Francisco to cross home capping the frame.

Gavin Williams (8-0) earned the win allowing two runs (both earned) on five hits with a walk and eight strikeouts for his fifth quality start of the season. Jake Kuchmaner made his first relief appearance since 2019 Greenville Regional Championship Game working two innings where he gave up two runs (both earned) on one hit with a walk and one punch out. Garrett Saylor (0.2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB) and Colmore (0.1 IP, 1K) worked the ninth inning securing ECU's 12th consecutive series opening win.

Schoenle (5-3) took the loss after being touched for seven runs (four earned) on seven hits with a walk and one strikeout in two innings. CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati baseball team earned a doubleheader split with No. 11 East Carolina thanks to a 7-6, walk-off win in 10 innings at UC Baseball Stadium Friday.

Cincinnati (25-22, 13-12 American Athletic Conference) got a pair of runs on a throwing error by ECU's Connor Norby who mishandled a bouncer from Cole Harting and threw it over the first basemen to allow Wyatt Stapp and Griffin Merritt to score. Stapp started the inning on second due to the AAC extra-inning rule and advanced to third on a Ryan Nicholson sac fly. Merritt was hit by a pitch and later advanced to second.

It marked UC's second-straight, extra-innings walk-off over a ranked team at UC Baseball Stadium. The Bearcats knocked off then No. 5 Louisville, 13-12 in 10 innings on March 30, 2021.

The Bearcats trailed 6-5 entering the 10th after ECU's Jacob Starling scored on a suicide squeeze play with Alec Makarewicz at the plate. Starling started the inning at second and took third on Seth Caddell's fly before scampering home on the bunt.

USF 8, Wichita State 2 (Game 1) - Box Score
Wichita State 9, USF 3 (Game 2) - Box Score
WICHITA, Kan. – The USF Bulls (21-23, 11-11 AAC) opened their final four-game road trip of the regular season on Friday and earned a split with the Wichita State Shockers (26-19, 14-11 AAC). Dylan Burns logged his second straight quality start and got plenty of offensive support in the opener, an 8-2 USF victory, before WSU pulled away late in the finale for a 9-3 win.

Daniel Cantu and Roberto Peña combined to go 7-for-7 with two homers, three doubles, five runs scored and six RBI in the opening game.

Game 1
The USF offense did a bulk of its damage against Wichita State's Jace Kaminska, who entered the day leading the AAC with a 1.23 ERA (ranked fourth in the country). The Bulls tagged the right-hander for seven runs on eight hits over 4.2 IP. Not only was it the first time this season Kaminska had allowed two homers, but the first time he was charged with more than two earned runs in an outing.

Six of the Bulls' 10 total hits went for extra-bases as USF began its barrage in the second inning with back-to-back doubles by Peña and Cantu for the first run of the game. Two batters later, Nick Gonzalez staked Burns to a 2-0 lead on the mound with a sacrifice fly.

Burns, who struck out three in the first frame, proceeded to strike out the side again in the second inning.

With Burns already cruising, Peña unloaded on a three-run homer in the third to make it a 5-0 affair. In the fifth, Peña recorded his second double of the game and came around to score on a two-run homer by Cantu as the lead swelled to 7-0.

Game 2
WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State baseball team posted a doubleheader split with the South Florida Bulls Friday, May 14, at Eck Stadium, Home of Tyler Field, dropping game one, 8-2, before winning the nightcap, 9-3.

The Shockers (26-19, 14-11 American) and Bulls (21-23, 11-11 American) are scheduled to play game three of the four-game series Saturday, May 15, at 2 p.m.

The Shockers scored one run in the fifth, three in the sixth and five in the seventh to break a scoreless stalemate that lasted through the first four innings.

Houston 2, Memphis 1 (Game 1) - Box Score
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Houston starter Robert Gasser tossed another gem and Ian McMillan provided the go-ahead RBI-double in the seventh, leading the Cougars to a series-opening, 2-1 win against Memphis on Friday afternoon from FedEx Park.

McMillan's run-scoring, wall-double double was the third straight hit in the seventh for Houston (18-26, 6-15 AAC) and scored Steven Rivas, who started the rally with his second hit of the day. The loss dropped the Tigers to 14-33 overall and 4-21 in league play.

Gasser (6-5) notched his fourth double-digit strikeout performance of the season and third on the road. The southpaw fanned 10 in 7.0 innings alongside three hits, one unearned run and no walks. It marked the fourth start in which Gasser had not permitted an earned run. His three hits allowed were the fewest since April 1 at Wichita State (2).

Cougar closer Derrick Cherry locked up his fourth save. The righty tossed two scoreless, allowing one hit while striking out a pair. Memphis starter Carson Stinnett (3-5) drew the tough-luck loss, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out four alongside one walk.

Memphis 13, Houston 7 (Game 2) - Box Score
Game two of the doubleheader featured far more offense from both sides and it started immediately, as both teams plated a pair in the opening frame. A two-run triple from Rivas off of Durham put the Cougars ahead 2-0, while Memphis answered on a two-run home run from Goodman, his AAC-leading 17th of the season.

Memphis (15-33, 5-21) took the lead in the second inning on a two-run double by Ian Bibiloni, though the Cougars tied it up two innings later on a home run from Rivas and RBI double from Dylan Post. Tied 4-4 after 3.5 innings, Memphis went back ahead in the bottom of the fourth against Ben Sears (ND) and Colby Casey. An error, a walk, and a bunt single loaded the bases with nobody out and knocked Sears out of the game. Goodman greeted Casey with a sacrifice fly to right field, which put the Tigers in front 5-4, but Memphis got nothing more out of the inning and quickly gave the lead right back.

In the fifth, Brad Burckel led off the Houston frame with a single, while Ryan Hernandez homered two batters later, which put the Cougars in front 6-5. The home run ended Durham's night, as Bailey Wimberley (W, 3-1) got the final two outs of the inning. Wimberley allowed one run on two hits over 3.2 innings out of the Memphis bullpen.

The Tigers took control of the game in the seventh inning, as Houston needed three pitchers to get through the frame. Cameron Prayer retired the first man to bat in the inning, but the next six batters reached base safely. Austin Baskin picked up a pinch-hit RBI triple, Bibiloni greeted Maddux Miller (L, 1-1) with an RBI single, while Trela reached on a fielder's choice that plated a run and made it 9-6 Memphis. After Taylor Howell was hit by a pitch, which loaded the bases, Ben Brooks made it a seven-run inning with a bases clearing double. Brooks later scored on a passed ball, as the Tigers led 13-6 after seven frames. In relief of Wimberley in the ninth, Daniel Casto allowed one inherited runner to score, but retired two of the three batters that he faced, as he secured Memphis' 13-7 win.
