IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has named its Executive Board for the 2021-22 school year.
For the second year in a row,
Chris Paul (Houston, Texas), an offensive lineman on the University of Tulsa football team, will be The American's representative to the NCAA Division I SAAC Advisory Committee and will be one of 32 student-athletes (one from each Division I conference) that will report directly to the NCAA Division I Council. He is the first football player from The American to be named to the national SAAC and is the first student-athlete from Tulsa to serve as the conference's national representative. Paul served as coordinator of community engagement on the SAAC Board in 2019-20.
Cincinnati will have two student-athletes on the Executive Board, including
Molly Chelovitz (Akron, Ohio), a senior on the swimming and diving team is the new coordinator of student-athlete and alumni engagement, and
Victoria Abunaw (Maumee, Ohio), a senior on the track and field team, will be the coordinator of diversity and inclusion.
Katie Power (Kingwood, Texas), a senior on the University of Houston women's swimming and diving team, will be the coordinator of community engagement for a second year in a row, while
Jamaya Fleming (Memphis, Tenn.), a junior on the University of Memphis track and field team, will serve as coordinator of public relations.
The American SAAC serves as the voice of student-athletes who represent the Conference's 12 member institutions. The mission of SAAC is to improve communication for all student-athletes at each member school as well as enhance communications between the institutions. SAAC takes an active role in understanding and providing feedback regarding NCAA and American legislations, and promotes student-athlete well-being, academic achievement, personal development and community service.
