IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s soccer awards for the fifth week of the regular season.
 
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sydny Nasello, Jr., F, South Florida
Nasello scored three goals last week, including a goal in the 89th minute to tie the game with East Carolina and send the match into overtime. She also scored both goals in a 2-1 win over Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday.
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kimberley Smit, Sr., D, Memphis
Smit led the Tiger backline to a shutout of Temple while only allowing one shot on goal. The senior also scored the game winning goal against the Owls.
 
GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Tatum Sutherland, R-So., SMU
Sutherland did not allow a goal in three halves of play last week, making nine saves. She had four in a 1-0 shutout over Oklahoma on Sunday and had five in one half against San Francisco.
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Paige Miller, F, Cincinnati
Miller recorded the assist on the game-winning goal for the Bearcats in a 1-0 win over Tulsa on Thursday.
 
HONOR ROLL
Ashley Barron, Jr., D, Cincinnati
Barron led the Bearcat defense that only allowed one shot on goal against Tulsa in a 1-0 win.
 
Vanessa DiNardo, Sr., F, Cincinnati
DiNardo scored the game-winning goal in the 29th minute against Tulsa.
 
Taylor Garza-Freeman, Gr., D, Houston
Garza-Freeman led the Cougar defense to a pair of shutouts, including 1-0 over UCF in the conference opener, while only allowing one shot on goal in each match.
 
Jazmin Grant, R-Sr., F, Houston
Grant scored the game-winning goal in the 49th minute in a 1-0 league win over UCF.
 
Lucy Roberts, So., D, South Florida
Roberts scored the first goal for the Bulls in a 3-2 overtime win over East Carolina on Thursday and assisted on the game-winning goal against Florida Gulf Coast.
