UCF’s Melville and Dillon, Cincinnati’s Mallon Secure Week Four American Volleyball Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s volleyball honors, for the week ending Sunday, September 19.
 
Offensive Players of the Week
McKenna Melville * Sr. * OH * UCF
Melville helped key a 3-0 UCF weekend with a strong offensive showing, ranking second in the conference with 5.09 points per set and ninth overall in the league hitting .339. Melville narrowly missed a double-double with 21 kills and nine digs in five sets against Miami (Fla.) on Sept. 16. Melville finished the day with a .343 hitting percentage and 14 kills in straight sets against FGCU. Melville added 12 kills on .444 hitting with four service aces in a sweep at Florida Atlantic on Sept. 17.
 
Maria Mallon * Sr. * OH * Cincinnati
Mallon led The American with 5.31 points per set in a 2-0 Cincinnati weekend, ranking seventh in the league with 3.88 digs per frame. Mallon went for 19 kills, 15 digs and three service aces in a four-set triumph over rival Xavier on Sept. 16. Mallon closed the weekend with a strong showing at Miami (Ohio) on Sept. 18, registering 15 kills on .263 hitting with 16 digs and four service aces.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Claudia Dillon * Jr. * MB * UCF
Dillon turned in a dominant performance on both sides of the floor for UCF in a 3-0 weekend, hitting a conference-high .714 on offense while turning in the third-most blocks per set (1.45) for the Knights. Dillon hit .571 with 10 kills and six block assists to kick off the week against Miami (Fla.) on Sept. 16. Later in the day against FGCU, Dillon equaled a conference record by hitting .909 with 10 kills and five total blocks (two solo) in a three-set sweep. Dillon closed the weekend with eight kills on .700 hitting with five block assists in a straight-set sweep of Florida Atlantic on Sept. 17.

Ranked fourth in the conference with 4.38 digs per set in a 2-0 Cincinnati weekend; logged 15 digs and two service aces in a four-set win against Xavier (Sept. 16) and added 20 digs and three aces at Miami (Ohio) in four sets (Sept. 18)
 
Amelia Davis * Fr. * MB * East Carolina
Finished second in The American with 1.78 blocks per set in a 2-1 weekend for East Carolina; tallied five total blocks against Gardner-Webb and UTRGV (Sept. 17) and added six blocks (two solo) in a sweep of Appalachian State (Sept. 18)
 
Kate Georgiades * So. * DS/L * Houston
Led all players in The American with 63 digs and 6.30 digs per set in a 2-1 Houston weekend; recorded 22 digs in a three-set sweep of Western Carolina (Sept. 17), turned in 24 digs against Alabama (Sept. 17) and posted 17 digs in three sets against Tennessee Tech (Sept. 18)
 
Alex Glover * Jr. * MB * SMU
Paced The American with 17 block assists and 1.89 blocks per set for 1-1 SMU; hit .381 with nine kills and 12 block assists in a five-set win at TCU (Sept. 18)

Ranked 10th in The American with 1.22 blocks per frame for 1-1 SMU; hit .353 with 15 kills and six block assists in five sets at TCU (Sept. 18)
