Houston, South Florida, UCF Athletes Win Season’s First Indoor Track And Field Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly indoor track and field honors, for the competition week ending Sunday, January 16.
 
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Shaun Maswanganyi * So. * Houston
Maswanganyi enjoyed a successful season debut for Houston running the 200-meter dash at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational on Jan. 14. Maswanganyi crossed the finish line with a time of 21.20 to post the fastest time in the event in the conference this season and the 14th-best showing in the nation as of Jan. 18.
 
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Romaine Beckford * Jr. * South Florida
Beckford turned in a solid performance in the high jump during his first start at South Florida at the Commodore Invitational on Jan. 14-15. Beckford successfully cleared 2.16m (7-1.0) to win the event with the best conference mark of the year, ranking eighth in the NCAA as of Jan. 18.
 
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Latasha Smith * So. * UCF
Smith shined in the 400-meter dash for UCF to begin the new campaign at the Clemson Invitational on Jan. 14-15. Smith logged a PR time of 53.16 to take the gold medal as the fastest athlete in the conference in the distance this season and ranked third in the NCAA in the distance as of Jan. 18.
 
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Priscilla Adejokun * Grad * Houston
Adejokun saved the best throw for last in the weight throw during the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational on Jan. 14. Adejokun covered 21.76m (71-4.75) on her sixth and final attempt to take the event win. Adejokun ranks first in the weight throw in The American this season and was fifth in the NCAA as of Jan. 18.
