South Florida’s Tsineke, Temple’s Gourdine Recognized As Top Women’s Basketball Award Winners In Week 11

IRVING, Texas The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball honors, for the week ending Sunday, January 23.
 
Player of the Week
Elena Tsineke * So. * G * South Florida
Tsineke was a late-game offensive force for South Florida in a pair of comeback victories last week, averaging 27.5 points per game on 44.7 percent (17-of-38) shooting from the field. Tsineke also hit 17-of-20 (.850) tries from the free-throw line. Tsineke tallied a season-high 30 points, including 19 in the second half, and the go-ahead free throws in the final 15 seconds to help the Bulls erase a late deficit in a 66-63 win over Tulsa on Jan. 19. Tsineke added 25 points, with 23 coming in the second half and overtime, and the ultimate game-winning jumper to key a South Florida 75-67 rally past Temple on Jan. 22.
 
Freshman of the Week
Aniya Gourdine * Fr. * G * Temple
Gourdine averaged 9.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game for Temple in a 1-1 road trip. Gourdine scored six points and added five rebounds, three assists and two steals in a 56-41 win at East Carolina on Jan. 19. Gourdine shined with 12 points, 10 assists and eight boards for the Owls in a narrow 75-67 overtime loss at South Florida on Jan. 22.

Logged 10.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per contest for 1-1 Memphis; scored 17 points with four rebounds and two steals at Tulane (Jan. 19) and tallied 13 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals in a win at Houston (Jan. 22)

Registered 20.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game in a 1-1 Temple week on the road; logged 15 points and five rebounds in a victory at East Carolina (Jan. 19) and a game-high 26 points in an overtime setback at South Florida (Jan. 22)
 
Dynah Jones * R-Jr. * G * Tulane
Keyed a 3-0 week for Tulane with averages of 15.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.0 steals per game; went for 17 points each in home wins against Memphis (Jan. 19) and Wichita State (Jan. 22)

Scored 10 points for Tulsa in a heartbreaking three-point loss at South Florida (Jan. 19); chipped in five rebounds and two blocked shots against the Bulls
