Houston, UCF Athletes Claim Indoor Track And Field Weekly Awards For Week Two

IRVING, Texas The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly indoor track and field honors, for the competition week ending Sunday, January 23.
 
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Jordan Booker * Sr. * Houston
Booker turned in a sterling performance in sprint distances for Houston on Jan. 21 at the competitive Texas Tech Red Raider Open. Booker ran the fastest 200-meter dash in The American this season as of Jan. 25, clocking a banked time of 21.05 for the 16th-fastest time nationally. Booker also tied for the conference’s top time in the 60-meter dash, turning in a banked 6.74 in Lubbock.
 
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Christyan Sampy * Jr. * Houston
Sampy cleared 5.23m (17-1.75) for a season-best in the pole vault to place second for Houston at the Texas Tech Red Raider Open on Jan. 21. Sampy’s runner-up mark led all vaulters in The American this season and ranked 21st nationally as of Jan. 25.
 
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Rayniah Jones * So. * UCF
Jones was the top collegiate finisher in the 60-meter hurdles at the Virginia Tech Hokie Invitational on Jan. 21-22, turning in a runner-up showing overall with a PR time of 8.07. Jones led all competitors in The American in the event and ranked eighth in the 60-meter hurdles in the NCAA as of Jan. 25.
 
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Priscilla Adejokun * Grad * Houston
Adejokun repeated as the top conference field athlete of the week after re-writing her PR in the weight throw once more with a winning performance at the Texas Tech Red Raider Open on Jan. 21. Adejokun scored a winning throw of 21.95m (72-0.25) on her final attempt to take the victory. Adejokun led The American and ranked seventh in the weight throw nationally as of Jan. 25.
