IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball honors, for the week ending Sunday, January 30.
Player of the Week
Diamond Battles * Sr. * G * UCF
Battles was the catalyst for UCF in a 2-0 conference week that led the Knights to solo first place in The American standings, averaging 17.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists per contest. Battles ended the week shooting 58.3 percent from the field (14-of-24) to lead all guards in the conference. Battles turned in her fifth 20-point game this season with 21 points, five boards and five assists in a 69-67 comeback win over Tulane on Jan. 26. Battles added 14 points, five assists and two steals in a victory at Wichita State on Jan. 29.
Freshman of the Week
Temira Poindexter * Fr. * F * Tulsa
Poindexter registered 9.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.0 blocks per game in a 1-1 week for Tulsa. Poindexter turned in 11 points and a pair of assists in an 80-68 win against Memphis on Jan. 26. Poindexter scored seven points, pulled down seven rebounds and dished out five assists with six blocks for the Golden Hurricane in a 66-60 setback at Cincinnati on Jan. 29.
