PHILADELPHIA - Deneric Prince rushed for a career-high 231 yards and scored two touchdowns as Tulsa overcame a slow start to take a 27-16 win against Temple Friday night at Lincoln Financial Field.
Prince had an 18-yard touchdown reception to put Tulsa on the board in the second quarter and he broke free for an 84-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to give the Golden Hurricane a 24-10 lead.
Tulsa (3-4, 1-2) trailed 10-0 after the first quarter after the Owls intercepted the first two passes from Golden Hurricane quarterback Davis Brin, including a 35-yard pick-six by Layton Jordan.
Temple's defense kept Tulsa off-balance through the first half with six sacks and two interceptions, but the Hurricane was able to find the end zone when Prince's touchdown catch capped a 94-yard drive to make it 10-7. Tulsa took the lead for good with 11 seconds left in the second quarer on a 3-yard touchdown catch by tight end Ethan Hall.
After Tulsa built a 17-10 lead on a field goal early in the third quarter, Prince made the biggest offensive play of the game when he burst through the middle of the line and went untouched for his 84-yard score to make it 24-10.
Temple (2-5, 0-3) closed to within one score with 6:08 left in the fourth quarter when Amad Anderson Jr. dove to the pylon to complete a 23-yard touchdown pass from E.J. Warner. The Owls had a late possession to go for the tying points, but Tulsa's defense held strong, forcing four incomplete passes.
Brin completed 15 of 22 passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns after overcoming the two early interceptions.
Warner was 23-of-48 for 196 yards and a touchdown, while Anderson finished with 112 yards and a TD on eight receptions. Defensive end Darian Varner registered 3.5 scks, while Jordan had two sacks with an interceptions and a forced fumble.
