Tulsa, Okla. – For a fourth consecutive season, Tulsa is on top of the The American cross country landscape, sweeping the team titles at the American Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships at Mohawk Park on Friday.
The Tulsa women earned a fourth straight women's 6K team championships (sixth overall) with a score of 37 points. Chloe Hershenow claimed the individual championship with a time of 20:40.4. The Golden Hurricane had two other top five finishers in Layla Roebke (third place; 20:57.0) and Kat Pesendorfer (fourth place; 20:58.6). Sarah Scott finished in 11
th place for Tulsa, running the course with a time of 21:20.1, while Chloe McEachern rounded out the Tulsa scorers in 18
th place with a time of 21:45.1.
Cincinnati's Rylee Penn finished as the runner-up with a time of 20:53.0, while Wichita State's Abeba Sullivan rounded out the top five with a time of 21.02.1. Other all-conference performers included SMU's Madeline Hulcy (sixth overall; 21:03.4), Tulane's Mackenzie Callahan (seventh place; 21:07.0), Cincinnati's Maddie Walker (eighth place; 21:08.9), Memphis's Chloe Figgins (ninth place; 21:09.6), SMU's Kaitlyn Gearin (10
th place; 21:10.3), Houston's Claire Meyer (12
th place; 21:23.5), Wichita State's Sarah Bertry (13
th place; 21:35.2); Temple's Laura Nicholson (14
th place; 21:36.9) and SMU's Alanis Rovineau-Fauvey (15
th place; 21:39.0).
SMU claimed a second straight Freshman of the Year award as Macey Hilton finished in 19
th place with a time of 21:51.3.
The Tulsa men earned a ninth straight championship since joining The American in 2014, claiming the top three runners in the race and 29 total points. Isaac Akers (23:51.7) lead the Hurricane as the individual champion and was immediately followed by Cormac Dalton (23:52.2) and Michael Power (23:52.8). Malte Propp (24:12.0) claimed eighth place for the Golden Hurricane. Luke Lambert claimed American Freshman of the Year honors rounding out the scorers for Tulsa in 15
th place with a time of 24:27.4.
Bradley Makuvire of Tulane (fourth place; 24:03.4) and Clayton Duchatschek of Wichita State (24:08.4) rounded out the top five finishers in the race.
Other all-conference finishers included Cincinnati's Milo Greder (24:11.5) and Tyler Wirth (24:11.8) who finished sixth and seventh place respectively. Wichita State's Adrian Diaz-Lopez (ninth place, 24:12.8), Memphis's Payton Gleason (10
th place; 24:16.4) and Memphis's Zachary Wyatt (11
th place; 24:21.2). Wichita State's Ben Flowers (24:24.3) and Trey Rios (24:27.1) finished two spots apart in 12
th place and 14
th place, respectively. Tulane's Aaron Gilliam took home 13
th place with a time of 24:26.1.
Tulsa head coach Steve Gulley captured the American Women's Coach of the Year honors after leading the Golden Hurricane to victory. Tulsa assistant coach Taylor Gulley captured American Men's Coach of the Year honors following the 8K win.
