2022 Pow6rful Minds Week - Oct. 3-9

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, representing the more than 7,000 student-athletes in the conference, has activated its annual Pow6rful Minds initiatives this week (Oct. 3-9), in conjunction with Mental Illness Awareness Week.
 
American Athletic Conference football student-athletes will wear specially designed green ribbon helmet decals, while coaching staffs will wear green ribbon patches. The conference has also produced a public service announcement featuring football student-athletes and coaches that will run in-venue this week.
 
The American’s social media platforms will be focused on mental health awareness throughout the week. The conference’s Facebook and Twitter channels will include statistics and facts on mental health issues as well as video content form the conference’s football coaches and student-athletes.
 
The American’s Instagram Stories will focus on a different theme each day so that student-athletes can engage and share their thoughts on mental health. 
 
Monday, Oct. 3 - #MotivationalMonday
Student-athletes will share motivational messages or their favorite motivational quotes
 
Tuesday, Oct. 4 - #TipTuesday
Student-athletes share mental health tips and information on where to find mental health resources on their campuses.
 
Wednesday, Oct. 5 - #WellnessWednesday
Student-athletes will share three healthy habits that help them lead balanced and healthy lifestyles.
 
Thursday, Oct. 6 - #MoreThanAStudent-AthleteThursday
Student-athletes will share what they do outside of their time in athletics and in school that allows them to recharge and feel refreshed.
 
Friday, Oct. 7 - #FeelGoodFriday
Student-athletes will reflect and share their three favorite positive experiences that happened during the week.
 
Saturday, Oct. 8 - #ShoutOutSaturday
Student-athletes will recognize three people who have supported them through times of achievement and struggle.
 
 
The American’s Pow6rful Minds campaign was launched in the fall of 2017. Through the campaign, The American SAAC has helped to create awareness of mental health issues and resources available for student-athletes. The definitive goal has been to end the stigma related to seeking help and promoting academic and personal success through a healthy, powerful mind.
