IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly volleyball awards for the week ending Sunday, October 2.
Offensive Player of the Week
McKenna Melville, Gr., OH, UCF
Melville had another impressive week for the Knights as the outside hitter average 6.83 points per set and 6.33 kills per set while hitting a mind-blowing .514 in the sweeps over Wichita State and Tulsa. To go along with her 23 kills in the win over Tulsa, Melville added 12 digs to add a double-double to her stat line.
Defensive Player of the Week
Tatum Ticknor, Gr., L, SMU
Ticknor held down the defense for the Mustangs during a 2-0 week in conference play. The libero finished with 5.50 digs per set, including a 26-dig performance at Cincinnati. She also handled 39 of 40 receptions cleaning. Ticknor dished out seven assists on the weekend as well.
Weekly Honor Roll
Angeles Alderete, Fr., OH, East Carolina
The freshman outside hitter finished both matches with double-digit kills all while hitting .237 on the week. She had 12 kills against Houston and 18 against Tulane.
Shaylynn Hall, Sr., MB, East Carolina
Hall was a force at the net this week, finishing with 1.57 blocks per set for the Pirates. She had four blocks against Houston and five against Tulane.
Abbie Jackson, Sr., OH, Houston
Jackson finished with 6.71 points per set and 5.57 kills per set while hitting .330 on the week. She added seven service aces to move into the second all-time spot in the Houston record book for career aces (123).
Miaya Smith, Gr., MB, Memphis
Smith was active on both sides of the ball for Memphis, finishing with 1.13 blocks per set and 2.75 kills per set while hitting .313.
Jamison Wheeler, So., OH, SMU
Wheeler helped the Mustangs go 2-0 in conference action, finishing with 5.00 points per set and 4.63 kills per set while hit .400 on the week.
