UCF's Carrera, Piddon Sweep American Golf Player of the Month Awards

IRVING, Texas The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of league’s monthly golf honors for the competition month ending Friday, September 30.
 
Men’s Golf Athlete of the Month
Luis Carrera, 5th Yr. - UCF
Carrera claimed the individual crown at the Hartford Hawks Invitational and helped lead the Knights to the team title.  Carrera shot 16-under par on the course, to earn his first career tournament win. He shot s 69 (-3) in the first round, before tying the UCF program round record with a 63 (-12) in the second round. He closed out the tournament with a 68 to claim the titled by five strokes. He had an average stroke of 66.67 during the month.
 
Women’s Golf Athlete of the Month
Tunrada Piddon, Sr. - UCF
Piddon had a record-breaking performance during the month of September as she claimed the individual title at the Mercedes-Benz Intercollegiate. She shot 11-under 202, setting a UCF program record for a three-score round. In the second round, she tied the single-round UCF program record as she shot a 64 (-7).  She also earned 4th place at the Cougar Classic, shooting a three-day total of 206 (68-69-69). The seven-under for the tournament and her score tied the third best 54-hole total in program history. For the month, she averaged a stroke of 68.
