GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina defeated Cincinnati for the first time since 2017 Sunday afternoon, rallying from a two sets to one deficit to post a 3-2 (23-25, 27-25, 19-25, 25-21, 15-13) American Athletic Conference victory inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.
 
The Pirates (8-10, 3-3 AAC) snapped an eight-match losing streak in the series with the Bearcats (4-12, 2-4 AAC) while also recording just their fourth win the all-time series. ECU has won three-straight league contests, temporarily moving into fifth place in the conference standings pending results of later matches.
 
East Carolina finished with a slight advantage in total kills (71-67), registering 11 in the fifth set alone. Cincinnati held the upper hand in the digs column (78-70) while the squads were even at 11.0 total blocks apiece. Both teams hit under .200 in the third and fourth sets, but it was the Pirates who claimed the final edge in that statistic, firing at a .240 clip as compared to the Bearcats' .226.
 
Angeles Alderete paced all players with 22 kills and completed her eighth double-double of the season with a career-high matching 14 digs. Izzy Marinelli exploded for a personal-best 18 kills and a .213 hitting percentage while Shaylynn Hall chipped in with five kills and six blocks. Along the back row, Kenzie Beckham racked up a team-high 18 digs and was complemented by an 11-dig performance out of Kellyn Trowse. Julianna Askew tallied a double-double of her own, logging 24 assists and 11 digs.
 
Avry Tatum and Carly Glendinning were tops for the visitors' offense, posting 18 and 17 kills respectively, while Payton Frederick collected a match-high 20 digs.
 
 
UCF 3, Tulane 0 – Box Score
NEW ORLEANS, La. – The UCF Knights got back on track on Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 sweep over Tulane in New Orleans. UCF improves to 13-1 overall and 5-1 in The American, while Tulane falls to 6-11 overall and 1-5 in The American.
 
McKenna Melville had 18 kills for the Knights, while Abby Hansen added 10 kills. Amber Olsen led UCF with 42 assists. Olson also tied for the lead with 11 digs, as did Chloe Scheer.
 
Amarachi Osuji led the Green Wave with nine kills. Tulane was paced by Kate Van Houten, who ended with 18 assists. Jillian Dits led the defense with 17 digs.
 
Houston 3, South Florida 1 – Box Score
HOUSTON, Texas – Having already broken the attendance record once this weekend, hosting 1,173 fans for a thrilling win over No. 23 UCF, the University of Houston volleyball team entered Sunday looking for another conference win in front of dedicated home fans. The Cougars got the win, 3-1, over the South Florida Bulls in front of an even bigger crowd of 1,455 fans, shattering the attendance record the team set than 48 hours prior.
 
Houston (15-2, 6-0 The American) moves to 7-0 at home, maintaining its unblemished record at the Fertitta Center. The Cougars improve to 9-8 all-time against South Florida (6-10, 0-4 The American) and extends its win streak in the series to four.
 
Senior Abbie Jackson led the charge against the Bulls, gathering 15 kills and a .402 hitting percentage in the four-set win. Senior Morgan Janda tallied a match-high 25 assists while junior Kate Georgiades posted a match-best 16 digs.
 
Senior Rachel Tullos tied her season-best with 12 blocks, which ties for the second most in a four-set match in program history. It is a mark that she's tied twice before and was originally set by Erin Rice at Tulsa on Nov. 12, 2006.
 
The Cougars held South Florida to a .014 hitting percentage, the first time this season that Houston limited an opponent to an efficiency less than .050 and the first time they have done so since they held Prairie View A&M to .020 on Aug. 28, 2018.
 
SMU 3, Wichita State 0 – Box Score
WICHITA, Kan. – The SMU Mustangs improved to 5-1 in The American and 12-6 overall with a 3-0 sweep over Wichita State on Sunday afternoon. The Shockers fall to 8-8 overall and 3-2 in The American.
 
Jamison Wheeler led the Mustangs with 16 kills. Jadyn Bauss added 10 kills. SMU was paced by Celia Cullen’s 37 assists. Jamison Wheeler also led SMU with 13 digs.
 
The Shockers were led by Brylee Kelly and Natalie Foster who both ended the match with 13 kills. Kayce Litzau paced the match with 32 assists. Morgan Weber led the defense with 16 digs.
 
Memphis 3, Tulsa 1 – Box Score
TULSA, Okla.– Memphis (13-6, 3-3) defeated Tulsa (9-8,2-3) in four sets (25-21,25-18,12-25,25-21) Sunday afternoon.
 
The Tigers' defense was clicking against Tulsa, they had a season high 82 digs and 15 blocks. Memphis went back-and-forth with the Golden Hurricanes during the first set but used a 8-1 run at the end of the frame to take the 1-0 lead.
 
Like the first set, Memphis finished the second on another run, this time a 7-1 spurt to go up 2-0 in the match. Tulsa, rallied back in the middle of the third to no get swept by the Tigers but could not carry the momentum into the fourth.
