IRVING, Texas – Five American Athletic Conference men’s soccer teams have earned bids to the 2022 NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship. FIU, SMU, Tulsa, South Florida and Memphis are all headed to the national tournament.
The five teams selected is the second most among all conferences, trailing only the ACC.
FIU (13-4-1), the 2022 American Athletic Conference Championship winners, earned the No. 10 seed and will have a first-round bye. The Panthers will face the winner of New Hampshire (14-4) and Seton Hall (7-3-7) on Sunday, November 20. This marks the 11
th trip to the NCAA Championship for FIU.
SMU (10-5-1) will have a first-round bye in the tournament, earning the No. 11 seed. The Mustangs will face the winner of the first-round match-up between Vermont (13-3-2) and Quinnipiac (13-4-3) on Sunday, November 20. This is the 34
th trip to the NCAA Championship for SMU.
Tulsa (9-4-2) earned the final national seed for The American, claiming the No. 15 seed in the tournament. The Golden Hurricane await the winner of Georgetown (11-5-3) and Navy (7-4-9) on Sunday, November 20. This marks the second straight trip to the NCAA Championship and 13
th overall for Tulsa.
South Florida (8-6-4), the 2022 American Athletic Conference Championship runner-up, will host Hofstra (14-3-3) in the first round on Thursday, November 17. The winner will travel to Lexington, Kentucky on Sunday, November 20 to take on the No. 1 seed, Kentucky (14-0-5). This marks the Bulls 22
nd bid in the NCAA Championship.
Memphis (9-5-4) claimed the final bid for The American and will travel to Saint Louis (11-4-3) for a first-round match on Thursday, November 17. The winner will advance to Bloomington, Indiana to play No. 13 Indiana (10-4-6) on Sunday, November 20. The Tigers will make their third trip to the NCAA Championship.
