FIU was aggressive for the full 90 minutes, outshooting Duke 14-10, but could not find an equalizer.
The 19th minute nearly saw FIU take the early lead as a corner kick led to three shots inside the Duke penalty area, but all three were blocked by Blue Devil defenders.
Duke would break the stalemate in the 41st minute after the Blue Devils' Scotty Taylor redirected a corner kick just inside the far post.
The Panthers did not let up in the second half, constantly applying pressure on the Blue Devils and creating multiple dangerous opportunities.
The best opportunity came in 87th minute, when Julian Hodek finished a great build up with a powerful shot to the far post, but it was saved to keep the Panthers off the scoreboard.
A fantastic 2022 season comes to an end with the loss to Duke.
FIU finish the season with a 14-5-1 overall record, the most wins since 2003.
The Panthers moved to the highly competitive American Athletic Conference this year and made an instant impact, finishing with a 6-2-1 record. FIU would also go on to win both the regular season and conference tournament championships in The American.
