IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball awards for the week ending Sunday, November 27.
Player of the Week
Jane Asinde, Sr., F, Wichita State
Asinde had a masterful performance for the Shockers, averaging 21.00 points and 17.00 rebounds in wins over Montana and Loyola Marymount. Against the Grizzlies, Asinde scored 20 points on 9-of-17 shooting, while grabbing 19 rebounds. She followed that performance up with a 22-point, 15 rebound double-double against LMU.
Freshman of the Week
Carla Brito, Fr., W, South Florida
Brito claims her third straight Freshman of the Week after averaging 11.50 points per game for the Bulls. Against New Hampshire, she scored a career-high 26 points, while matching her career-high with 10 rebounds. The performance was her second double-double of the season.
Weekly Honor Roll
Laila Jewett, So., G, UCF
Jewett averaged 15.67 points per game and 6.33 rebounds per game in three wins for the Knights. She scored a league season-high 34 points in the win against Samford.
Jillian Hayes, Jr., F, Cincinnati
Hayes averaged a double-double across three games, scoring 15.33 points per game and grabbing 10.33 rebounds per game. Against UT Arlington, Hayes scored 16 points and had 14 rebounds.
Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu, R-Sr., F, South Florida
Fankam Mendjiadeu averaged a double-double with 14.00 points and 15.25 rebounds per game. Against Georgia Tech, she scored 19 points and brought down 21 rebounds.
Aleah Nelson, Jr., G, Temple
Nelson averaged 19.50 points per game and 5.50 assist per game for the Owls. She scored 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting against Bucknell.
Marta Galic, Gr., G, Tulane
Galic averaged a double-double with 13.50 points and 10.00 rebounds. In the win against Central Michigan, Galic scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
