FIU, Memphis, SMU Win Final Weekly Honors of the Season

IRVING, Texas The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s soccer awards for the final matches of the 2022 regular season.
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Andrew Bennett, Jr., M, FIU
Despite playing just 18 minutes in the match, Andrew Bennett made his impact felt both in the match and on the season. His game-winning header in the 86th minute secured The American regular season championship for the Panthers.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
David Garcia, Sr., D, FIU
Garcia played the full 90 minutes in the 1-0 win over Florida Atlantic.  He anchored the defense that allowed just three shots on goal to help FIU clinch the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament.
 
Goalkeeper of the Week
Colin Welsh, So., GK, Memphis
Welsh came away with five saves en route to his fifth shutout of the season for the Tigers.
 
Rookie of the Week
Fredrik Skilberg, Fr., F, SMU
Skilberg was responsible for two goals in the Mustang’s 3-2 win over No. 12 Tulsa, assisting on a goal in the 36th minutes before scoring in the 39th minute to help SMU secure the No. 2 seed.
 
Weekly Honor Roll
 
Kameron Lacey, Sr., F, Charlotte
Lacey added two goals in the 5-1 win over Temple, helping the 49ers claim the sixth and final spot in The American Men’s Soccer Championship.
 
Eric Primo, So., F, Memphis
Primo scored the first goal of the match for the Tigers in the 12th minute in the 2-0 win over UAB.
 
Gabrielle Privitera, Sr., M, South Florida
Privitera scored the second goal of the match in the 69th minute in what would end up being the game-deciding goal for the Bulls.
 
Brian Schaefer, So., D, South Florida
Schaefer anchored the Bulls defense that allowed just three shots on goal against UCF.
 
Knut Ahlander, Gr., M, SMU
Ahlander scored two goals for the Mustangs in the win over No. 12 Tulsa to help clinch a first-round bye at the conference tournament.
