Memphis Advances to American Final After Winning Penalty Shootout with UCF

ORLANDO, Florida – No. 4 seed Memphis moved on to the American Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Championship final after winning a penalty shootout with top seed UCF, 6-5, Thursday, November 3 at the UCF Soccer and Track Complex. The two teams were tied, 1-1, after 110 minutes of action.
 
Memphis (8-5-5) advances to the final to face No. 6 seed SMU on Sunday, November 6 at 1 p.m. ET/noon CT on ESPNEWS and ESPN+. UCF moves to 9-2-5 on the season.
 
The Tigers will be competing in the Championship final for the fourth time out of the last five years. Memphis captured the tournament title in 2018 and 2021.
 
In the penalty shootout, Memphis’ Claire Wyville made a diving save on UCF’s second attempt, while Caroline DeLisle of UCF made a stop on the Tigers’ fifth attempt. Zoe Mae stepped up and converted after UCF missed in the seventh round of penalty shots to push Memphis to the final.
 
UCF struck first in the 35th minute when Anna Henderson scored off an assist by The American’s Offensive Player of the Year Kristen Scott.
 
Memphis leveled the score in the 62nd minute on a goal by Lilly Huber, who was assisted by Peyton Felton.
 
The American’s Goalkeeper of the Year DeLisle recorded three saves, while Wyville made two saves.
