Wichita State, Temple Players Named October Players of the Month

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of its men’s and women’s tennis honors for the month of October.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE MEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Kristof Minarik • So. • Wichita State • Boldog, Slovakia
Minarik went 6-2 in singles play and 2-1 in doubles in the month of October, including two wins against nationally ranked opponents. He advanced to the singles final of the ITA Central Region Championships, earning a bid to the ITA National Fall Championships with his runner-up finish. He paired with Alex Richards to advance to the quarterfinal of the doubles bracket in the ITA Central Region Championship as well.
 
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE WOMEN’S TENNIS PLAYERS OF THE MONTH

Maiko Uchijima • Fr. • Temple • Toyama, Japan
Wei and Uchijima qualified for the ITA National Fall Championships in doubles by going 8-0 through the regional and super regional rounds. The tandem went 3-0 at the ITA Northeast Regional Championship, defeating tandems from Drexel, Fordham and Army, and followed with wins against Yale, Princeton, Boston College and Columbia in the ITA Super Regional. They became the first Temple tandem to reach the ITA National Fall Championships in program history.
