TOWSON, Md. – The Memphis Tiger women's basketball team made an impressive second half comeback after being down by as much as 22 today. It would come down to the final possession as the Tigers claimed the 73-71 win.
Following today's game, Memphis moves to 6-5 overall.
Towson got out to a quick start, taking an 18-9 lead with less than three minutes left in the first quarter. After Hannah Riddick added in a second chance jump shot with 1:52 left, TU would take the 26-11 lead into the second quarter.
The hot shooting of Towson continued into the second quarter as TU extended their lead out to 41-19 after Quinsia Fulmore sank a free throw with under four minutes left in the half.
Memphis would close out the last three minutes of the half on an 8-2 run that saw back-to-back three-pointers from Jamirah Shutes and Madison Griggs to cut their deficit to 45-29 heading into the break.
The Memphis Tigers would open the second half with an offensive surge; an 11-4 run through the first five minutes would put Memphis within nine of Towson after Griggs sank a 10-foot jump shot just before the media timeout.
Destiny Thomas would put Memphis within five of Towson after adding in two of her five made free throws at the end of the quarter to make it a 57-52 game.
The Memphis offense would continue to push into the fourth quarter as Emani Jefferson paced the Tigers with eight points in the opening five minutes. She would tie the game at 62-62 after she completed a three-point play with 5:38 remaining in the game.
Towson and Memphis traded buckets, and the lead, heading into the final minute of the game. Griggs would tie the game with 45 seconds left after a jumper at the free throw line made it a 71-71 game. On the Towson end, Jada Wright would block Patricia Anumgba's shot to give the Tigers one last possession.
Jamirah Shutes would get a shot off with one second left on the clock, but as it rimmed out, Wright would give Memphis the win as she tipped-in the rebound for the 73-71 win.
As a team, Memphis outscored Towson 44-26 in the second half.
Today's win marks the first 15+ point comeback for Memphis since the 2018-19 season when the Tigers made a 19-point comeback over Temple in the American Athletic Conference Championship.
Jamirah Shutes led the all players today with 19 points while four other Tiger players reached double figures; Madison Griggs and Emani Jefferson added in 15 and 10 points, respectively, while Hannah Riddick recorded her second consecutive game of double-digits with 11 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Destiny Thomas was the final Memphis player to reach double figures, chipping in 11 points off the bench while going 3-3 from the field and a perfect 5-5 from the charity stripe.

ATHENS – Four Bearcats finished in double figures to lead the University of Cincinnati women's basketball team to a 77-44 road win over Ohio inside Convocation Center on Tuesday night.
With the win, Cincinnati improves to 6-5 on the season.
Junior guard Dais'Ja Trotter recorded a career-high 13 points in 12 minutes off the bench, while senior guard Caitlyn Wilson finished with 12 points on 4-5 from three-point range. Sophomore guard Braylyn Milton added 12 points and two assists.
Junior guard Jillian Hayes posted her 10th-straight double-digit scoring game, finishing with 10 points and eight rebounds.
After Ohio raced out to a 6-0 lead, Cincinnati settled in and took back the lead after a 12-0 run that was capped off on a Malea Williams' three from the top of the key. The Bearcats found their footing defensively and limited the Bobcats to three of their final 13 field goals in the first quarter.
Cincinnati maintained the momentum out of the timeout and used another 17-0 run, their largest spurt of the season, to start the second quarter. The Bearcats converted on 63.6 percent from the field in the period and outscored their opponent 19-5 in the frame to take a 36-20 lead into the half.
A 23-2 run that was closed out Trotter's third three of the game extended the lead as many as 35 late in the fourth quarter.
Cincinnati finished 50.0 percent from the field and 60.0 percent from three. The Bearcats are now 20-0 when shooting at or above 50.0 percent from the field under head coach Michelle Clark-Heard.
The Bearcats received a season-high 41 points from its bench and out-rebounded their opponent 44-22. Williams tied a career-high 10 rebounds. The Bearcats forced 22 turnovers and turned it into 23 points.
