IRVING, Texas – Three American Athletic Conference volleyball players were honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) on Wednesday, earning All-America status.
UCF’s graduate outside hitter McKenna Melville earned First-Team All-America selection, while Houston’s junior libero Kate Georgiades and senior outside hitter Abbie Jackson garnered Honorable Mention selections.
Melville, the three-time American Player of the Year, earned her fifth All-America award and first First Team Selection. She become the first UCF First Team Selection and joins Cincinnati’s Jordan Thompson (2019) as the only other American player to be named to the First Team. Melville led NCAA Division I in points per set (6.12) and kills per set (5.51), while ranking 7th in total kills (539). She became just the 10th student-athlete in NCAA Division I history to reach 2,500 career kills. Melville finishes her career with the second most kills in American history (2,563).
Georgiades, a two-time American Libero of the Year, led The American in digs per set (5.41) and ranks 11th nationally in the category. She was also 6th in NCAA Division I in total digs (687). She set The American three-set single-match record with 34 digs at Tulsa on Nov. 11. Georgiades also added 165 assists and 33 services aces on the season. She played an instrumental role in helping the Cougars advances to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Volleyball Championship and the program’s first 30-win season.
Jackson, a 2022 First-Team All-Conference selection, ended her season with 472 kills while hitting .224 on the season. She added 329 digs on the defensive side. She finished the season inside the top-100 in the NCAA Division I in eight statistical categories and led The American in aces (57) and aces per set (0.45). Jackson broke The American career service aces record this season (157).
