IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball awards for the week ending Sunday, December 18.
Player of the Week
Aleah Nelson, Sr., G, Temple
Nelson had a career night in the Owls’ win over Duquesne, scoring 33 points, including her 1,000
th career point. The 33 points is the most by any Owl since 2019 and is the second highest in The American this season. Nelson made seven three-pointers in the game, tied for the most in The American this season.
Freshman of the Week
Carla Brito, Fr., W, South Florida
Brito helped the Bulls pick up two more wins as the freshman averaged eight points per game in wins over Marshall and La Salle. She had eight points and seven rebounds against Marshall before scoring eight points and grabbing four rebounds against La Salle.
Weekly Honor Roll
Jillian Hayes, Jr., G, Cincinnati
Hayes averaged 12.5 points and eight rebounds per game to help the Bearcats pick up a pair of wins over Ohio and Southern Indiana.
Madison Griggs, Sr., G, Memphis
Griggs averaged 17 points across two wins for the Tigers, including a 19-point outing against Saint Louis.
Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu, R-Sr., F, South Florida
Fankam Mendjiadeu averaged 21.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game for the Bulls. Against La Salle, she tied her career-high with 26 points.
Jessika Evans, Jr., F, Tulsa
Evans scored 15 points against No. 22 Kansas while grabbing six rebounds and dishing out three assists for the Golden Hurricane.
Jane Asinde, Sr., F, Wichita State
Asinde had a double-double in the Shockers win over Southern, scoring 15 points and coming down with 12 rebounds.
