South Florida's Fankam Mendjiadeu, East Carolina's Joyner Earn Women's Basketball Weekly Honors

IRVING, Texas The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball awards for the week ending Sunday, December 25.
 
Player of the Week
Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu, R-Sr., F, South Florida
Fankam Mendjiadeu put forth two impressive performances against two Top 20 opponents at the San Diego Invitational. She averaged 25 points and 14.5 rebounds in games against #3/4 Ohio State and #17/19 Arkansas. She tied her career-high with 34 points against the Buckeyes before coming away with a double-double (16 pts, 12 rebs) in the overtime win against Arkansas.
 
Freshman of the Week
Amiya Joyner, Fr., F, East Carolina
Joyner helped guide the Pirates to two wins this week as she finished with a pair of double doubles. She averaged 15 points and 11 rebounds against North Carolina A&T and Hampton. In the 64-60 win at Hampton, Joyner scored 19 points, including the game-winning shot with 2.1 second left and two free throws to ice the game with one second left.
 
Weekly Honor Roll
 
Laila Blair, Jr., G, Houston
Blair had a pair of 20-point performances for the Cougars, scoring 20 points against UTSA and 21 against Washington State.
 
Jamirah Shutes, 5th, G, Memphis
Shutes scored 17 points and dished out three assists for the Tigers, helping Memphis come from behind to defeat Xavier 66-63.
 
Maya Mayberry, Sr., G, Tulsa
Mayberry averaged 22.5 points in a pair of wins over Northwestern State and Texas Southern. She dropped 23 points against the Demons and 22 against the Tigers.
 
Ahrray Young, Fr., G, Tulsa
Young averaged 15.5 points and 8 rebounds for the Golden Hurricane. She finished with a double-double against Texas Southern, scoring 18 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
 
Trajata Colbert, Sr., F, Wichita State
Colbert scored 14 points and came down with 16 rebounds for the Shockers against Wyoming. She went a perfect 8-for-8 at the charity stripe.
