IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s basketball honors for the fourth week of the season.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Khalif Battle, R-So., G, Temple
Battle led the Owls to two victories last week, averaging 24.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals. He had 27 points and a career-high four steals over VCU on Saturday after dropping 22 points against La Salle in a neutral-site game at the Palestra in Philadelphia on Wednesday.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Taylor Hendricks, F, UCF
Hendricks earned his third Freshman of the Week honor after scoring 21 points in a win over Samford on Sunday. The forward was 6-of-7 from the field, including 4-of-5 from 3-point range. Hendricks is the second player from The American to be named Freshman of the Week three weeks in a row, joining Memphis’ Austin Nichols in the last three weeks of the 2013-14 regular season.
HONOR ROLL
CJ Kelly, Sr., G, UCF
Kelly recorded 16 points, including three 3-pointers, in the Knights’ win over Samford.
Viktor Lakhin, R-So., F, Cincinnati
Lakhin recorded a pair of double-doubles in Bearcat wins last week, averaging 13.0 points and 11.5 rebounds in only 20.5 minutes per contest.
J’Wan Roberts, R-Jr., F, Houston
Roberts averaged 12.5 points and 6.5 rebounds as the No. 1 Cougars defeated Norfolk State and Saint Mary’s.
DeAndre Williams, Sr., F, Memphis
Williams averaged 16.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 blocks in a 2-0 week for the Tigers.
Jaylen Forbes, Jr., G, Tulane
Forbes averaged 20.5 points and 6.0 rebounds in two games for Green Wave.
