IRVING, Texas – Commissioner Mike Aresco has announced the promotion of one member of the American Athletic Conference staff as well as the hiring of three new staff members.
Kauri Black has been promoted to Senior Director for Broadcasting and Digital Programming. Delaney Jodice and Jason Nelson have joined The American as Directors of Sport Administration and Championships, while Mykel Read has joined the staff as Executive Assistant to the Commissioner.
“I am pleased to recognize the continued excellent work and professionalism that Kauri Black provides to our conference and member schools,” said Aresco. “He has been instrumental in the success we have had putting together innovative and excellent television schedules. I am also happy to welcome three outstanding staff members to The American. Delaney Jodice and Jason Nelson both have extensive experience in event management and sport administration at our member schools and will be integral in providing memorable regular-season and championship experiences for our student-athletes. Mykel Read is a seasoned administrative professional whose skills and experience make her a valuable resource for our conference staff, our membership and me.”
Black joined The American staff in 2015 as an administrative fellow and had most recently served as Director of Broadcast Scheduling. He manages all aspects of the conference’s television and multimedia operations, including coordination of schedules, data analysis and serving as a primary liaison between the conference’s member institutions and media partners. Black additionally assists with the annual creation and implementation of The American’s football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball schedules. Black holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Northeastern University and a master’s degree in mathematics and science education from the University of Tulsa.
Jodice joins The American after serving as Assistant Director for Facilities and Event Operations at the University of Houston since 2020. She will serve as The American’s primary staff liaison for women’s soccer, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, men’s and women’s tennis and women’s lacrosse. At Houston, Jodice was the Cougars’ primary event manager for women’s soccer, track and field and softball and was on the event management staff for football and men’s basketball. She was Coordinator of Facilities, Operations and Events at the University of Maryland for one year and also has event management experience at Auburn University and the University of Michigan. Jodice holds a bachelor’s degree in sport management from Michigan and a master’s degree in higher education administration from Auburn.
Nelson comes to the conference after serving as Director of Moody Coliseum/Director of Event Operations at Southern Methodist University since 2013. He will be The American’s primary liaison for men’s and women’s cross country, women’s volleyball, men’s golf and softball. Nelson oversaw all planning, organization and execution of all public and private events at Moody Coliseum and managed the facility’s operating budget. He was the primary operational liaison with national television crews and coordinated and supervised all gameday staff, including ticket-takers, concessions workers and ushers. Nelson holds a bachelor’s degree in business and public administration from the University of North Dakota.
Read comes to The American after serving as Executive Assistant to the North America COO at Burson Cohn & Wolfe in Dallas. She previously held similar roles at St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi, and Hodges, Harbin, Newberry & Tribble Inc., in Macon, Georgia. She is a graduate of Mississippi State University with a bachelor’s degree in marketing.
