IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly indoor track and field honors, for the competition week ending Sunday, February 6.
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Christian Gilmore * Sr. * Houston
Gilmore blazed to an 800-meter victory representing Houston at the Charlie Thomas Invitational on Feb. 4 in College Station. Gilmore threw down the fastest 800-meter time in The American this season as of Feb. 8 and crossed the finish line in 1:52.11 to claim first place in the event.
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Michael Bryan * Sr. * Wichita State
Bryan continued his top-flight performances in the weight throw for Wichita State during the Herm Wilson Invitational on Feb. 4. Bryan claimed the event with a fifth throw of 20.94m (68-8.5), the top attempt in The American this season and 27th nationally as of Feb. 8.
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Rayniah Jones * So. * UCF
Jones took the win for UCF in a competitive 60-meter dash field at the Charlie Thomas Invitational on Feb. 4. Jones bested Houston’s Camille Rutherford in the finals with a time of 7.23 to claim first place. Jones was the conference 60-meter leader and ranked ninth in the NCAA as of Feb. 8.
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Priscilla Adejokun * Grad * Houston
Adejokun extended a dominant start this season in the weight throw with a third straight win for Houston during the Charlie Thomas Invitational on Feb. 4. Adejokun unleashed a second throw that covered 22.09m (72-5.75) and ultimately outpaced the finals flight for the victory. Adejokun owned the top throw in The American and ranked seventh nationally as of Feb. 8.
