IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly softball honors, for the week ending Sunday, March 20.
Player of the Week
Jada Cody * So. *UTL * UCF
Cody continued her stellar production at the plate for UCF during a midweek victory against Ohio State and a three-game weekend sweep of Furman in Orlando, batting .636 with six extra-base hits, 10 RBI, a 1.545 slugging percentage and five runs for the Knights. Cody posted three RBI in each of the three wins against Furman, scorching the Paladins for three hits in game one on March 19 and adding a pair of hits and two runs scored to the RBI count in the series finale on March 20. Cody leads The American with 50 RBI over her first 33 starts this season.
Pitcher of the Week
Gianna Mancha * Sr. *RHP * UCF
Mancha spun her second career no-hitter to kickstart a three-game series sweep for UCF over Furman in Orlando. Mancha yielded four walks and punched out eight batters on 99 pitches to blank the Paladins in an 8-0 victory for the Knights on March 19. Mancha ranks second in The American this season in wins (10) and third in ERA (2.01), batting average against (.195) and strikeouts (93).
Weekly Honor Roll
Madisyn Davis * So. *RHP * East Carolina
Logged a 2-0 record and spotless ERA in a pair of starts for 6-1 East Carolina during the week; tossed a three-hit shutout with one walk and four strikeouts against Elon (March 15) and went six shutout innings with five strikeouts in game one of a doubleheader at College of Charleston (March 20)
Kendall Lee * R-Sr. *1B * Memphis
Batted .600 with three doubles, eight RBI and a .579 on-base percentage for 3-2 Memphis; went 3-for-4 with a run scored in a win against James Madison (March 18), logged four RBI later in the day against East Tennessee State (March 18) and drove in three runs in a victory against Northwestern State (March 19)
Georgina Corrick * Sr. * RHP * South Florida
Posted a 4-1 record with a 0.47 ERA and four complete games (three shutouts) for South Florida; struck out nine in a five-hit shutout against Ohio State (March 17), scattered five hits and one walk with 13 strikeouts against Lehigh (March 18) and went six shutout innings with four hits allowed and eight strikeouts in a win over Canisius (March 20)
Samantha Pochop * Sr. * RHP * Tulsa
Went 2-1 with a 2.55 ERA, one walk and 22 strikeouts in three complete games for Tulsa; spun a two-hitter with one walk and eight strikeouts in a win against Abilene Christian (March 16) and yielded one earned run and punched out eight batters at Kansas (March 20)
Lauren Lucas * So. * OF * Wichita State
Batted .560 with eight extra-base hits, 10 RBI and six runs scored in a 5-2 Wichita State week; logged three hits each in games against Iowa (March 14), Kansas (March 14) and Kansas City (March 18)
