IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly baseball honors for the sixth week of the season.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Roberto Pena, R-Jr., UTL, South Florida
Pena hit .500 last week (6-for-12) with six runs scored, two doubles, two home runs and eight runs driven in a 4-0 week. The redshirt junior recorded a hit in all four games and scored four runs in a win over Florida Gulf Coast.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Orion Kerkering, R-So., South Florida
Kerkering earned the win in a 9-4 victory over Niagara by only allowing two hits and one earned run while striking out eight and walking none in a career-high 7.0 innings of work.
HONOR ROLL
Ryder Giles, Jr., P, East Carolina
Giles made two starts for the Pirates last week, allowing no runs in 7.1 innings. The junior scattered four hits and two walks while recording four strikeouts in wins over UNCW and VCU.
Zach Arnold, R-So., INF, Houston
Arnold hit .353 (6-for-17) with five runs scored, three doubles, two home runs and four runs batted in as the Cougars went 3-1 last week.
Derrick Cherry, Jr., P, Houston
Cherry made two appearances last week, earning the win at Sam Houston. The junior allowed one run and struck out eight over 8.0 innings.
Luis Aviles, R-Sr., C/INF, Tulane
Aviles led The American in batting last week, hitting .636 (7-11) with six runs scored, two doubles and four runs driven in. He had multi-hit games in all three games he played in.
Grant Siegel, Fr., P, Tulane
Siegel threw 6.0 innings, allowing one run with five strikeouts in a 12-1 series-opening win over Dayton.
