IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly outdoor track and field honors, for the competition week ending Sunday, March 27.
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Quivell Jordan * Grad * Houston
Jordan took part in a competitive 400-meter hurdles final heat for Houston at the 94th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays March 23 in Austin. Jordan posted a time of 49.66 to place fifth in the field, logging the top time in The American and fifth in the NCAA as of March 29.
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Christyan Sampy * So. * Houston
Sampy continued a strong 2022 season with a pole vault win representing Houston on March 23 at the 94th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin. Sampy cleared 5.55m (18-2.5) to set a program record and take the meet title. Sampy is The American leader in the pole vault and ranked third in the nation as of March 29.
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Ellie Leather * Sr. * Cincinnati
Leather broke the previous Cincinnati record in the 1500-meter run at the Raleigh Relays on March 24 in Raleigh, North Carolina. Leather claimed fourth place overall (third collegiate finisher) in the event with a time of 4:14.14 to shave nearly three seconds off the school record. Leather’s time paced the conference by more than 12 seconds and ranked third in the NCAA as of March. 29.
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Adrienne Adams * So. * UCF
Adams established a school record in the discus for UCF on home turf at the Knights Invitational on March 25 in Orlando. Adams covered 53.69m (176-2.0) on her third attempt to win the event in convincing fashion. Adams’ top throw led The American and checked in 14th nationally as of March 29.
