UCF’s Cody, South Florida’s Corrick Claim Week Four Softball Awards

IRVING, Texas The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly softball honors, for the week ending Sunday, March 6.
 
Player of the Week
Jada Cody * So. * UTL * UCF
Cody tore the cover off the ball for UCF in a 5-1 week, which included two games that did not advance past the fifth inning due to the run rule. Cody batted .444 and slugged 1.222, reaching base at a .524 clip with four home runs, 14 RBI and five runs. Cody drove in four of the five UCF runs in a win against South Carolina on March 5, homering for the second straight game. Cody added a home run in each game of run-rule sweeps of FGCU on March 5-6, driving in five runs in game one and three runs in game two for the Knights.
 
Pitcher of the Week
Georgina Corrick * Sr. * RHP * South Florida
Corrick equaled a conference record with a fourth straight league pitcher of the week honor in the same season, joining UCF’s Shelby Turnier (March 23-April 13, 2015) and Tulsa’s Emily Watson (April 10-May 1, 2017). Corrick turned in her most dominant week of the season to date, going a perfect 5-0 with a save in six appearances (four starts), issuing just one walk while striking out 48 batters in 32.1 innings. Opponents batted just .076 against Corrick for the week. Corrick set a school record with 19 strikeouts over 11 innings in a win at FGCU on March 2, spun a one-hit shutout with five strikeouts against UIC on March 4, threw a three-hitter with eight strikeouts against UIC on March 5 and tossed the third perfect game in conference history with eight strikeouts over five innings against Florida A&M on March 6. Corrick is 13-0 with a 0.08 ERA, a .108 batting average against and 127 strikeouts over 87.1 innings pitched thus far in 2022 as of March 7.

Posted a 2-0 record with a 1.47 ERA and 22 strikeouts in three starts for UCF; threw a five-hit shutout with three walks and eight strikeouts against Oakland (Feb. 28) and punched out 10 batters in a win over FGCU (March 4)
 
Aspen Howie * R-Sr. * OF * Houston
Batted .500 with three home runs and six RBI in tournament play at UNLV for Houston; homered in two games, including a walk-off win in game one, against No. 7 Washington (March 4-5) and drove in three versus New Mexico State (March 5)
 
Gracie Morton * Sr. * OF * Memphis
Hit .471 with eight runs scored in a 2-3 Memphis tournament week; scored three runs against Indiana State (March 6) and went 4-for-4 with a steal and two runs in the nightcap against UT-Martin (March 6)
 
Alexis Johns * Jr. * OF * South Florida
Logged a .417 batting average with three RBI, 10 stolen bases and nine runs scored for South Florida; stole three bases in back-to-back games against Florida A&M (March 4) and UIC (March 5), scoring twice in each contest
 
Lauren Lucas * So. * OF * Wichita State
Batted .455 with two home runs, six RBI and four runs scored for 2-2 Wichita State at Nebraska; recorded three hits and drove in three runs against South Dakota State (March 4) and added a two-run double the following day against the Jackrabbits (March 5)
