IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly outdoor track and field honors, for the competition week ending Sunday, April 10.
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
De’Vion Wilson * So. * Houston
Wilson secured a second place showing for Houston in the 110-meter hurdles at the LSU Joe May Invitational on April 9 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Wilson crossed the finish line with a time of 13.72 to claim runner-up honors. Wilson’s time was the fastest in The American this season and ranked 16th in the NCAA as of April 12.
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Brady Palen * So. * Wichita State
Palen won a competitive high jump final heat at the Wichita State KT Woodman Classic on April 6 in Wichita, Kansas. Palen cleared 2.18m (7-1.75) on his second attempt to log the second-ranked mark in the conference and eighth-ranked jump nationally as of April 12.
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Shaneylix Davila * Sr. * South Florida
Davila captured the 100-meter hurdles title for the host squad at the South Florida Invitational on April 8 in Tampa, Florida. Davila threw down a gold medal finish in 13.03 to lead all competitors in The American and rank 12th in the NCAA as of April 12.
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Brittany Floyd * R-Sr. * UCF
Floyd established both a UCF program and conference record with 5,643 points to win the heptathlon at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational on April 8 in Coral Gables, Florida. Floyd was the first-place finisher in the 100-meter hurdles (13.99), 200-meter dash (24.75), long jump (6.13m/20-1.5), javelin (38.96m/127-10.0) and 800-meter run (2:17.51) during the event. Floyd’s point total led the conference and was seventh in the nation as of April 12.
