ELON, N.C. – Josh Moylan led East Carolina's offense after going 4-for-4 and driving in a pair of runs in a 7-1 series sweep of instate foe Elon Tuesday night at Walter C. Latham Park. With the win, the Pirates improved to 19-15 on the season while the Phoenix dropped to 15-17.
The Pirates wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard plating a pair of runs on four hits in the second for a 2-0 lead. Cam Clonch singled to right and took second on Bryson Worrell's sac bunt. Moylan pushed Clonch across on a one-out single through the right side and two batters later, Zach Agnos reached on another single this time through the left side putting runners on the corners. Lane Hoover drove in the would-be game-winning run with an RBI single to short scoring Moylan for the early lead.
Jaden Winter (1-0) earned the win in his ECU debut allowing one run (earned) on three hits in two-plus innings. On a staff night, the Pirates used eight additional arms getting work from Danny Beal (1.0 IP, 1 B, 1 K), Bradley Wilson (1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 BB), Ben Terwilliger (0.0 IP, 1 H, 1 BB), C.J. Mayhue (2.0 IP, 4 Ks), Jake Hunter (1.0 IP, 1 H, 2 Ks), Nick Logusch (0.0 IP, 1 H, 1 BB), Carter Spivey (1.0 IP, 1 K) and Zach Agnos (1.0 IP, 1 BB).
Liam Dabagian (1-1) took the loss after allowing two runs (both earned) on five hits with three punch outs in 1.2 innings. Also on a staff night, the Phoenix used six arms in relief in Ben Sieracki (0.2 IP, 3 Hs, 2 Rs, 1 BB, 1 K), Trevor Kirk (1.2 IP, 1 K), Cam Seguin (1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 2 Ks), Kyle Greenler (0.2 IP, 1 H, 2 Rs, 1 BB, 2 Ks), Jake Nolan (1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K), Ben Simon (1.0 IP, 1 K) and Joe Savino (1.0 IP, 2 Ks).

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – UCF Baseball (21-12) scored three runs in two separate innings to defeat the Jacksonville Dolphins (16-14), 6-1. Cameron Crain picked up his first win of the season, in his first start, working four innings of one-hit baseball.
UCF opened the scoring in the top of the third, as Ben McCabe singled to left field to score Noah Orlando and Alex Freeland. Tom Josten followed later than inning with a single to left to score Lex Boedicker and extend the Knights lead to 3-0.
Crain worked through the fourth, allowing one hit and striking out two batters. He induced six flyouts and four ground balls, to keep the Dolphins off the basepaths. Jacksonville would record their first hit in the fourth inning, before cutting into the lead with a run in the sixth.
In the ninth UCF added some insurance runs, as Boedicker singled to left field to score Freeland. Andrew Sundean tallied two more RBIs on the season, doubling to left field to extend the Knights lead to 6-1.
Tulane 4, New Orleans 2 -

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University baseball team (23-10-1) bested the University of New Orleans (19-11) by a score of 4-2 on Tuesday night at Maestri Field.
Tulane mustered just five hits but made plays when it counted as the bullpen kept the Privateers at bay for the first Green Wave win at Maestri field in its last seven visits.
Graduate student Carter Robinson got his seventh start of the year for Tulane and allowed one earned run on four hits and two strikeouts in three innings of work. Robinson was on a pitch count to make him available for the weekend series.
FGCU 12, South Florida 4 -

TAMPA (April 12, 2022) – The University of South Florida Bulls (19-14) suffered a 12-4 loss on Tuesday night to Florida Gulf Coast University (21-12) in the opener of a four-game homestand at USF Baseball Stadium.
The nearly four-hour affair featured 17 total pitchers and 22 walks. South Florida, which ranks in the top 10 of the NCAA in walks drawn this season, recorded nine of those, but unfortunately issued 13 on the mound to FGCU – the second-most by the Bulls this season. USF entered the game also ranked 41st in the country in fewest walks allowed per nine innings.
The Bulls stranded 12 runners on base in the setback and record just one extra-base hit, a solo homer by Daniel Cantu in the fourth inning.
Cantu's blast cut the USF deficit to 4-2 at the time, and the Bulls made it a one-run ballgame before the inning came to a close, but could never retake the lead after originally leading in the game 1-0 after the first frame.
Oklahoma State 8, Wichita State 5 -

STILLWATER, Okla. – Brock Rodden and Seth Stroh both homered, but #5 Oklahoma State scored six times over the final three innings to knock off Wichita State 8-5 on Tuesday night at O'Brate Stadium.
The Shockers (13-19) were within 2-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth, but the Cowboys scored three times in the inning on four hits to extend the advantage to 5-1. Griffin Doersching had the big blow in the frame, a two-run homer down the left field line.
A single run in the seventh and two more in the eighth courtesy of a Brett Brown home run made it 8-1 Cowboys.
In the ninth, the Shockers made things interesting when Sawyre Thornhill and Gage Williams walked, then Jordan Rogers singled to load the bases. Stroh followed by slicing a line drive on an 0-2 pitch to left-center that carried over the wall for a grand slam, his third home run of the season and the second gram slam of 2022 for the Shockers. After an out, Chuck Ingram doubled to extend his hitting streak to ten games, but Nolan McClean struck out Rodden to end the game with the tying run in the on-deck circle.

CINCINNATI -- The University of Cincinnati baseball team fell to Louisville in a high-scoring game Tuesday night in Louisville, Ky., 18-10. Cincinnati's record moves to 13-18 on the season.
Redshirt sophomore pitcher Zach Segal (0-2) started the game for the Bearcats and took the loss. Seven pitchers threw in the game for UC.
Even in a loss, the Cincinnati lineup continued to hit. Redshirt junior Griffin Merritt hit his 11th home run of the season, went 2-for-4 and scored three runs. Sophomore outfielder Cole Harting also went 2-for-4, as he drove in two runs for the Bearcats as well. Redshirt senior infielder Wyatt Stapp drove in three runs of his own while notching two hits and a walk.
UTRGV 9, Houston 1 -

HOUSTON – UTRGV struck for five runs in the fifth inning and kept Houston's bats at bay as the Vaqueros snapped the Cougars' streak of perfection in the midweek with a 9-1 win on Tuesday night from Sanders Field at Schroeder Park.
The Cougars (21-12), who had won eight consecutive midweek contests, batted just .188 (3-for-16) with runners aboard. Houston's lone run came on an RBI-groundout from Cameron Nickens in the sixth inning.
UTRGV (18-14) batted around in the fifth inning, stretching its one-run advantage to six thanks to five hits highlighted by a three-run home run from leadoff hitter Cameron Blake. The Vaqueros tacked on two more in the fifth via Blake's two-run triple.
Houston starter Nathan Medrano (4-3) allowed one run on one hit with two walks and three strikeouts in 2.0 innings. UTRGV taxed Cougar reliever Derrick Cherry for five runs (four earned) on four hits in 1.2 innings.
UTRGV starter Randy Garza worked around three hits and three walks, tossing 2.1 scoreless frames. Reliever Ricky Gerik (2-2) earned the victory, tossing 2.2 scoreless frames. Offensively, the Vaqueros were led by Blake's five RBIs.
