TAMPA (April 16, 2022) – Battling through injuries up and down the roster, the University of South Florida (20-16, 2-7 American) snapped a three-game skid on Saturday afternoon with a 9-2 victory over the University of Memphis (15-16, 3-6 American) at USF Baseball Stadium.

The American Athletic Conference hits (56) and RBI (44) leader, Carmine Lane powered USF with a 4-for-5 effort and four RBI. Freshman Jackson Mayo launched his seventh home run of the season and fellow rookie Sonny Rao went 2-for-2 with a walk, two runs scored and a pair of RBI.

Looking to secure the conference road sweep, Memphis jumped out to a 2-0 lead with runs in the top of the second and third innings before the Bulls offense got going.

In the bottom of the third, Bobby Boser was hit by a pitch and Jarrett Eaton walked to open the frame. Rao followed with a two-run triple to immediately knot the score and Lane was next with the go-ahead single.

In the fourth, Boser singled with one out and Rao extended the frame with a two-out base hit. Lane delivered again with an RBI-single and Mayo followed with a towering three-run blast to right-center field to give USF a 7-2 advantage.

Lane stretched the Bulls' lead with run-scoring singles in both the sixth and eighth innings.

Cincinnati 4, Wichita State 0 - Box Score
WICHITA, Kan. -- Graduate pitcher Tristan Weaver, redshirt sophomore pitcher Zach Segal and sophomore pitcher Max Bergmann combined to throw a shutout on Saturday as the Cincinnati Bearcats blanked the Wichita State Shockers, 4-0, to complete the three-game sweep.

Weaver (4-3) started and picked up the win for Cincinnati (16-18, 6-3), going five shutout innings while giving up two hits, walking three, and striking out one. Segal was dealing out of the bullpen as well, going three shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking three and striking out one.

Redshirt junior outfielder Paul Komistek led the way offensively for the Bearcats, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a home run, a walk and an RBI. Redshirt freshman infielder Kerrington Cross put together a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 2-for-5 with two doubles. Redshirt junior outfielder Griffin Merritt also chipped in, going 2-for-5 for Cincinnati with an RBI.

Houston 10, Tulane 9 - Box Score
HOUSTON – Houston Baseball struck for nine two-out runs in the fifth inning, erasing its once four-run deficit to take the three-game set with a 10-9 win against Tulane in the series finale on Saturday afternoon from Sanders Field at Schroeder Park.
 
The Cougars (22-13, 5-4 American) sent 12 batters to the plate in the fifth, delivering eight hits, including six with two away. The nine runs were the most in an inning for Houston since plating as many against the Green Wave (24-12-1, 6-3 American) on May 24, 2018.
 
After Zach Arnold drove in two in the fourth, Alex Lopez knotted the game at four-all on a base hit. Houston opened the floodgates as Ryan Hernandez delivered a two-run double, Samuel Tormos provided an RBI-single and Ian McMillan swatted a two-run home run.
 
The Green Wave chipped away at Houston's six-run advantage, answering with three runs in the fifth and two more in the eighth. In his third appearance of the weekend, Cougar closer Ben Sears locked up his seventh save, allowing two runs on four hits in 3.1 innings.
 
Houston reliever Logan Clayton (2-3) earned the win, tossing 1.1 innings, allowing one hit alongside two strikeouts. Offensively, the Cougars amassed 16 hits led by three each from Arnold and Hernandez. All 10 Houston runs came with two away.

East Carolina 10, UCF 1 - Box Score
ORLANDO, Fla. – East Carolina completed the American Athletic Conference weekend series sweep Saturday with a 10-1 victory over UCF at John Euliano Park. With the win, the Pirates improved to 22-15 on the season and 7-2 in league play moving into first place in the standings, while the Knights dropped to 21-15 and 5-4.
 
In a scoreless tie going to the fifth inning, ECU exploded with eight runs on six hits to take a commanding a 8-0 lead. Zach Agnos led off with a single through the right side, which was followed by Lane Hoover getting on base after being hit by a pitch and Josh Moylan loaded the bases. Cam Clonch plated the first runs of the game with a two-RBI double down the right field line scoring Agnos and Hoover. Jacob Jenkins-Cowart kept the hitting going with a two-RBI base knock through the left side plating Moylan and Clonch.
 
The inning continued with Jacob Starling (left side) and Bryson Worrell (bunt single) getting hits to load the bases for Alec Makarewicz, who blasted his team-leading home run (grand slam) clearing the bases for the eight-run fifth frame.
 
Jacob Hunter (1-1) earned his first collegiate win tossing three scoreless frames where he allowed one hit, struck out two and faced the minimum on the day (nine batters). Josh Grosz allowed one run (earned) on two hits with a walk and one punch out before Trey Yesavage entered the game in the bottom of the sixth. Yesavage worked 2.1 scoreless frames with four strikeouts, while Wyatt Lunsford-Shenkman closed out the game allowing two hits in his inning of relief.
 
Kyle Kramer (0-3) suffered the loss along two runs (both earned) on three hits with a walk and three strikeouts in two-plus frames. UCF starter Cameron Crain tossed two scoreless frames along one hit, walking two and striking out two. The Knights would also get outings from Zack Hunisker (0.0 IP, 3 Hs, 4 Rs, 1 BB), Domonic Castellano (1.1 IP, 3 Hs, 4 Rs, 2 BBs), Rudy Gomez (1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 Rs, 3 Ks) and Jacob Marlowe (2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 Rs, 1 K).
