Pairings Announced for 2022 American Women's Tennis Championship

IRVING, Texas – UCF’s women’s tennis team has earned the No. 1 seed for the 2022 American Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Championship.
 
The women’s championship begins Wednesday, April 20, and continues through the April 23 final. The winner of the women’s championship will earn The American’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Tennis Championships.
 
Seeds for the championships are determined by the ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings.
 
UCF earned the No. 1 seed for the fourth consecutive season after the Knights went 15-6 in the regular season. The Knights have won eight consecutive matches matches and have eight wins against nationally ranked opponents, including a 4-3 decision against then-No. 9 Oklahoma State at the end of March.
 
Competition in the American Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Championships will take place at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Tulsa.

Championship Notes
  • UCF has won the last two American Athletic Conference Championship as the Knights claimed their first title in 2019 and repeated in 2021. The 2020 championship was not played due to the COVID-19 pandemic
     
  • Tulsa enters the American Women’s Tennis Championship in search of its fourth title. The Golden Hurricane, seeded No. 3 in this year’s event, previously won the championship in 2015, 2016 and 2018. Tulsa is 14-3 all-time in the American Championship and has the best winning percentage in the tournament of any team (.824).
     
  • The No. 1 seed has won the team championship three times in the tournament’s seven-year history (Tulsa in 2016, UCF in 2019 and 2021).  The championship has been won by a No. 1 seed, a No. 2 seed, two No. 3 seeds and a No. 7 seed.
     
  • The American has four teams in the most recent ITA national computer rankings. UCF is No. 18, SMU is No. 43, Tulsa is No. 48 and Memphis is No. 56 in the April 13 rankings.
     
  • UCF’s Marie Mattel is ranked No. 94 in the April 13 ITA singles rankings, while teammate Evgeniya Levashova is No. 105.
     
  • The American has four doubles tandems ranked among the ITA’s top 90: SMU’s tandem of Hadley Doyle/Jackie Nylander is No. 33, UCF’s Evgeniya Levashova/Marie Mattel is No. 42, Tulane’s Charlotte Russell/Lahari Yelamanchili is No. 67 and SMU’s Claudia Bartolome/Jackie Nylander is No. 88.
