IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly outdoor track and field honors, for the competition week ending Sunday, April 17.
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Quivell Jordan * Grad * Houston
Jordan put up the best 400-meter hurdles time for Houston at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 13. Jordan took fifth in the college finals with a time of 49.66, the top time in the conference this season and the seventh-best time nationally as of April 19.
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Antonio Ruiz * Grad * Houston
Ruiz was the second collegiate finisher in the pole vault at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 13. Ruiz cleared 5.50m (18-0.5) for the second-best mark in The American this season and ranked seventh in the NCAA as of April 19.
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Latasha Smith * So. * UCF
Smith placed fifth in a competitive 400-meter dash heat for UCF at the UF Tom Jones Memorial on April 15. Smith clocked a time of 52.01 to lead The American and rank eighth in the nation as of April 19.
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Jane Sensibaugh * So. * Cincinnati
Sensibaugh placed third in the discus to lead Cincinnati at the UF Tom Jones Memorial on April 15. Sensibaugh covered 55.15m (180-11.0) on the second attempt of the flight, ranking first in the conference and 20th in the NCAA as of April 19.
