UCF's Josten, Litchfield Earn Baseball Weekly Honors

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly baseball honors for the penultimate week of the regular season.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tom Josten, R-Jr., 2B, UCF
Josten aided the Knights to a series win over Houston and propel UCF in a tie for second-place in The American’s standings by hitting .429 (6-14) with four runs scored, two doubles, a pair of home runs and eight runs driven in. The redshirt junior had the game-winning RBI in Saturday’s win over the Cougars.
 
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
David Litchfield, R-Sr., UCF
Litchfield made three appearances for the Knights last week, not allowing an earned run in 7.2 innings of work. He only gave up two hits and struck out four batters. In Sunday’s series finale with Houston, the redshirt senior picked up the win after 4.1 scoreless innings of relief.
 
HONOR ROLL
Jake Hunter, Fr., P, East Carolina
Hunter struck out seven while only allowing one hit and one run in 5.1 innings against South Florida. He retired the first 16 batters he faced.
 
Ben Newton, Sr., C, East Carolina
Newton aided the Pirates to a sweep of South Florida by hitting .500 (6-12) with five runs scored, two doubles and one RBI.
 
Ryan Hernandez, Sr., 1B, Houston
Hernandez hit a league-leading three home runs last week, while hitting .333 (4-12). All four hits were extra-base hits as the senior added a double to the three long balls.
 
Jacob Compton, So., 1B/OF, Memphis
Compton hit .500 (7-14) with four runs scored, four doubles, one home run and four runs driven in as the Tigers won a road series at Cincinnati.
 
Connor Holden, Gr., P, Wichita State
Holden earned two saves for the Shockers last week against Tulane. On Friday he had a 4-inning save as the Shockers won 2-0 and got the final two outs in Sunday’s 4-3 win.
