05.18.22

IRVING, Texas After putting together one of the best performances of anyone in NCAA Division I softball this season, South Florida senior pitcher Georgina Corrick became the first American Athletic Conference player to advance to the Top 3 Finalists for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award. USA Softball unveiled the 2022 Division I national player of the year finalists on May 18, with Corrick being the only pitcher remaining in contention for the honor.

The USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year is voted on by coaching representatives of 10 Division I conferences in the 10 USA Softball regions, members of the media who consistently cover Division I softball across the country as well as past winners of the award. The 2022 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will be revealed prior to the start of the NCAA Women’s College World Series on May 31 at the team-only banquet in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

The American, Big 12 and Pac-12 each boasted the three finalists for the 2022 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award, with Corrick joining 2021 winner Jocelyn Alo from Oklahoma and Washington standout Baylee Klingler.

Already this season, Corrick and Wichita State junior infielder Sydney McKinney were the fifth and sixth overall selections (second and third among the Top 10 Finalists) from The American as USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year finalists since the conference was reconstituted in 2014. Corrick was previously one of 26 finalists for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award in 2019, with Corrick and McKinney joining Lindsay Crowdus from Memphis (top 25 in 2017), Shelby Turnier from UCF (top 10 in 2015) and Sara Nevins from South Florida (top 25 in 2014) as national player of the year finalists representing the conference.

Corrick continued to re-write The American record book in her senior campaign, becoming the first student-athlete in conference history with four straight major yearly awards (2018, 2019, 2021, 2022) and was the unanimous American Pitcher of the Year for the second consecutive campaign. Corrick captured a record nine American Pitcher of the Week citations during the 2022 regular season to finish her career with an impressive 25 conference pitcher of the week and five national pitcher of the week honors.

Over her first 45 appearances (38 starts) in the circle this season Corrick has posted a 36-5 record and 0.53 ERA with two saves, three total no-hitters and two perfect games. Corrick has spun 33 complete games, 20 solo shutouts and five combined shutouts as of May 18, striking out 407 batters while allowing just 31 walks over 266.1 innings pitched (.120 batting average against).

Corrick was the national leader in victories, shutouts and strikeouts as of the latest NCAA DI statistics report on May 15 and has already set American conference records for pitching wins (112 career, 36 season), strikeouts (1,291 career, 407 season), shutouts (54 career, 20 season) and career no-hitters (eight solo, one combined).
