Memphis, UCF Selected to NCAA Women's Tennis Championshp

05.02.22

IRVING, Texas – On the heels of its first American Athletic Conference title in women’s tennis, Memphis will join UCF as The American’s representatives in the 2022 NCAA Women's Tennis Championship, which begins May 6 and 7.

The Tigers, whose only previous NCAA tournament appearance came in 2013, will head to Auburn, Alabama, for its first-round match, where Memphis will face Georgia Tech. A win against the Yellow Jackets would send the Tigers to a second-round matchup against either Jackson State or No. 13-seeded Auburn.

UCF will make its eighth NCAA Championship appearance and will play in the national tournament for the fourth consecutive season. UCF has won at least two NCAA tournament matches in each of its last two appearances and has won three consecutive tournament openers. The Knights will face Alabama in the 2022 first round in Coral Gables, Florida, and would meet either Stetson or No. 9-seeded Miami (Fla.) in a second-round contest. UCF won its only previous NCAA tournament matchup against Alabama, with a 4-0 win in 2019. The Knights are 1-1 against Miami in the tournament, including a 4-1 win against the Hurricanes in the second round last season.

First- and second-round competition takes place May 6-7 or 7-8 and features four teams playing in a single-elimination format. The winner of each site advances to super-regional competition May 13 or 14. Each super-regional site will feature two teams playing a single-elimination format. The super-regional winners advance to the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Champaign, Illinois, where the eight teams will compete for the national championship May 20-22. The event will be hosted by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign..
