No. 16 UCF picked up the first home NCAA Regional win for the program on Friday’s opening day against Villanova, blanking the Wildcats 6-0. The Knights raced out to three runs in the first inning and two runs in the second, outhitting Villanova 14-3 for the game.
Jada Cody went 2-for-3 with a pair of home runs and five RBI to power the UCF offense, while Allyse Volpe went 3-for-4 with three runs scored in the win. Four other Knights players closed the game with two hits apiece.
Gianna Mancha tossed a three-hit shutout to take the win for UCF, walking one with nine strikeouts on 115 pitches.
South Florida 4, Mississippi State 0
South Florida advanced in the winner’s bracket at the NCAA Tallahassee Regional with a 4-0 shutout of Mississippi State on Friday night.
Meghan Sheehan and Josie Foreman each homered in the top of the sixth inning for South Florida, with Foreman finishing the game 3-for-3. Alexis Johns chipped in a base hit, stolen base and scored the first run of the game for the Bulls.
Georgina Corrick allowed four Mississippi State hits in a complete game shutout, walking three while striking out nine Bulldogs over 121 pitches.
Oregon 10, Wichita State 2 (5)
Wichita State fell into the loser’s bracket on opening day at the NCAA Fayetteville Regional after dropping a 10-2 decision in five innings to Oregon.
Addison Barnard drove in the only Wichita State runs of the night on a two-run home run in the top of the third frame. Wylie Glover went 2-for-2 with a double and a run and Sydney McKinney reached base twice for the Shockers.
