07.19.22

Three American Athletic Conference quarterbacks are among the 35 signal-callers who have been named to the 2022 preseason Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award Watch List.

The Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award is presented annually to the nation’s best college quarterback and is the oldest and most prestigious national quarterback award

SMU's Tanner Mordecai is one of 12 returning semifinalists from last year to appear on the 2022 watch list. He is joined from The American by Houston's Clayton Tune and South Florida's Gerry Bohanon, who was the starter for Baylor's Big 12 championship squad last season.

Mordecai ranked 10th nationally in passing, averaging 302.3 yards per game. He threw for 3,628 yards and 39 touchdowns in 2021.

Tune started all 14 games for Houston and threw for 3,546 yards and 30 touchdowns.

Bohanon, who missed two games due to injury last season, had 2,205 passing yards with 18 TD passes to go with nine rushing touchdowns and 323 yards on the ground.

Ten of The American's 11 teams return their starting quarterbacks from last season.
